Columbia CLT22-LSCS-EDD – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Columbia CLT LED troffer drop into a 9/16 inch grid ceiling, or only 15/16 inch?
Both. The CLT center lens troffer ships with integral T-bar clips that mount to 9/16 inch and 15/16 inch grid ceilings, and it arrives fully assembled, so a lay-in goes in without added hardware. It is a recessed fixture, so grid is the native application.
2) Can the Columbia CLT troffer be surface mounted on a hard lid or drywall ceiling?
Not as shipped. The CLT is built to lay into a grid ceiling. Surface mount applications require a surface mount kit accessory, and plaster or sheet rock openings require a flange kit. Order the appropriate kit alongside the fixture if there is no T-bar grid at the opening.
3) Is the Columbia CLT troffer shallow enough for a tight plenum above the ceiling?
That is the point of the housing. The CLT is a low-profile center lens troffer intended for shallow plenum applications, with a die-formed code-gauge steel housing. It is the type to reach for over ducted corridors or a slab-to-grid space where a deeper volumetric troffer will not clear.
4) Do I have to pick a lumen package and color temperature when I order the Columbia CLT?
No. Output and color are both switchable at the fixture: 3300, 4400 or 5500 lumens, and 3500K, 4000K or 5000K. It leaves the factory set at the highest lumen output and 3500K, so if that is what the space needs you can install it as it comes. For a stocking situation, one part number covers all nine combinations, which is why this style suits an MRO shelf.
5) Will the Columbia CLT troffer match the 4000K fixtures already in my building?
Yes, set it to 4000K. The CLT switches between 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, so it can be matched to existing troffers in an office or corridor instead of standing out. It defaults to 3500K out of the box, so change the switch before it goes in the grid. CRI is 80+.
6) What voltage does the Columbia CLT LED troffer run on, and will it work on a 277V commercial circuit?
The CLT operates on 120 to 347V, so a single fixture covers 120V, 277V and 347V branch circuits without ordering a voltage-specific version. That range is what makes it workable across a mixed building where tenant spaces are 120V and the base building is 277V.
7) Will the Columbia CLT troffer dim on my existing 0-10V controls, and can it dim all the way off?
It comes standard with a 0-10V driver that dims to 1% and goes dim-to-off, so it works with a standard 0-10V dimmer or a room controller. Columbia recommends a 1.3V minimum low-end trim setting on the dimmer. Set that trim during commissioning or the low end can behave unpredictably.
8) Can a Columbia CLT LED troffer be installed in a ceiling with insulation over it?
An IC label is standard on the recessed CLT, so it can go into an insulated ceiling. One caveat that matters on a job: that IC label is void if the fixture is installed with both a battery pack and through wiring. If the design calls for emergency egress plus through-wired circuiting in an insulated plenum, that combination is out.
9) Is the Columbia CLT troffer rated for a damp location like a covered entry or a locker room?
Damp location rated, yes. It is built to UL 1598 standards with appropriate CSA labels. Damp covers covered exterior soffits, restrooms and similar humid interiors; it does not cover direct water exposure, so a wet location calls for a different fixture.
10) What is the difference between a center lens troffer and a full-lens or volumetric troffer for an office?
A center lens fixture like the CLT puts a frosted, textured lens band down the middle of a matte white steel housing. Light washes off the painted reflector on either side, which softens the ceiling plane and reduces the glare of a fully luminous panel. A full-lens or volumetric troffer lights the whole aperture and reads brighter as an object. For offices, classrooms and retail where people look up, the center lens style is the quieter ceiling; where raw delivered lumens per fixture matter most, a full aperture wins.
11) Can I order the Columbia CLT troffer with an emergency battery pack?
Emergency battery pack options are available on the CLT and are CEC Title 20 compliant, which matters on California work. Remember the IC label restriction: pairing a battery pack with through wiring voids it, so plan the circuiting if the fixture sits in insulation.
12) How do I know the Columbia CLT troffer will actually hold its light output and color over time?
Performance is documented to LM79, LM80 and TM21, the three test methods that cover photometric output, LED lumen maintenance and the projection of that maintenance over rated life. For a spec-driven job or a facility standard, those are the numbers an engineer will ask for, and the published data is on the Columbia spec sheet at zensupply.com/content/pdf/columbia/COL_CBT_A_LSCS_spec.pdf.
