1) Can the Compass CC combo exit sign be used as a single face and a double face sign?
Yes. The CC Series combination exit/emergency unit ships as a universal single or double face sign with removable chevrons, so you set the face and the directional arrows in the field rather than ordering a specific configuration. That means one part number covers a wall run where the sign is read from one side and a corridor or stairwell landing where it has to be read from both.
2) Is the Compass CC exit sign rated for a parking garage or an unheated stairwell?
Damp location, yes. The CC Series is UL924 Listed for damp locations, which covers a covered garage, an open stairwell, or a canopy area where condensation is a factor. It is not a wet location product, so anywhere subject to direct water spray or driving rain needs a wet-rated unit instead.
3) Do I need to specify 120V or 277V when ordering the Compass CC combo unit?
No. The CC combo sign is dual voltage at 120/277V AC, so the same unit wires into either a 120V branch circuit in a tenant space or a 277V circuit in a commercial building. That is useful for MRO stocking, since one unit covers both panel voltages across a facility.
4) What is the difference between the two versions of the Compass CC exit and emergency combo sign?
The only ordering choice is remote capacity: one version has it and one does not. The remote capacity version will drive 2 single CIR/COR remote lamp-heads or 1 double CIR/COR remote off the unit's battery, which is how you light an adjacent windowless room, an electrical closet, or a stair landing that has no room for its own combo unit. If every space on the circuit is covered by the unit's own adjustable lamp-heads, the non-remote version is what you want.
5) Does the Compass CC sign meet the 90 minute emergency egress requirement?
Yes. The nickel cadmium battery carries the LED exit panel and both lamp-heads for 90 minutes of emergency runtime on loss of normal power, which is the duration required by NFPA 101. The unit is listed to UL924 and compliant with NFPA 101, NFPA 70 and OSHA, plus CEC Title 20.
6) Can I mount the Compass CC combo exit light on the ceiling instead of the wall?
Both. The CC Series mounts wall or ceiling using a snap-together canopy, housing and cover assembly, so an electrician can set the canopy on the box, make up the leads and snap the housing on without separate hardware. Ceiling mounting is the usual answer when the sign has to be read down a corridor from both directions.
7) Does the Compass CC exit sign self-test so my staff does not have to run monthly inspections by hand?
Self-test/self-diagnostics is an available option on the CC Series. When equipped, it runs monthly and annual self-tests for 90 minutes and identifies faults in the battery, charger, integral LED lamps and connected remotes. It does not eliminate the code-required inspection record, but it flags a failed battery or lamp before an inspector finds it.
8) Should I use a combination exit/emergency unit or separate exit signs and emergency lights?
A combo unit like the CC Series puts the illuminated exit panel and two adjustable LED lamp-heads on one box and one battery, so a door that needs both a marked exit and egress path illumination is covered by a single circuit drop. Separate devices make more sense when the exit door and the area needing light are far apart, or where a low-profile exit sign is wanted over a door for appearance reasons. If the remote areas are nearby, the remote capacity version of the combo splits the difference by feeding remote lamp-heads from the same battery.
9) Do I have to order the Compass CC exit sign in red or green letters?
No. Letter color is field-selectable red or green on the CC combo unit, so the same stocked item satisfies a jurisdiction that requires red and one that requires green. The housing itself is white thermoplastic.
