Thomas & Betts ALB-1 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Thomas & Betts ALB-1 come with a cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
The ALB-1 is the conduit body only. Order the cover and gasket to close it up: die cast cover CV-1 or stamped aluminum cover SCV-1, with either a composition gasket GKV-1 or a neoprene gasket GKN-1. If you want the body, cover and gasket together in one package, order the D-Pak catalog number DALB-1-CG.
2) Is the ALB-1 conduit body weatherproof for an outdoor run?
Threaded conduit bodies like the ALB-1 keep a weather resistant conduit system when they are assembled with the matching cover and gasket, so you need the gasket in place (composition GKV-1 or neoprene GKN-1) for outdoor or damp locations. The body and the retained cover screws are stainless steel screws in a die cast aluminum body.
3) How many conductors can I legally pull through the ALB-1? What is its volume?
The ALB-1 has a 4.3 cubic inch wiring chamber. Use that number against the box fill rules for your conductor size and count when you are making splices in it. The throats are smooth so conductors pull without scuffing insulation.
4) Is the ALB-1 UL listed and RoHS compliant?
Yes on both. The ALB-1 conduit body carries a UL certification and is RoHS compliant, which covers most institutional and government spec requirements for listed fittings.
5) Is an aluminum conduit body OK with galvanized rigid steel conduit?
The ALB-1 is die cast aluminum, and aluminum fittings on galvanized steel conduit are common practice. Where the run is in a corrosive or continuously wet environment and dissimilar metal contact is a concern, spec a body in the same material family as your raceway instead.
