1) Can I add this Corbin Russwin cylinder to my building's existing master key system?
Yes, if your building is already on a Corbin Russwin keyway. The 1000 Series is built to integrate into Corbin Russwin key systems and master keying hierarchies, and it's offered across 84 keyways, from the 27, 57, 59, 67 and 77 families through the N-series and the H and L keyways. Order the cylinder in the same keyway your facility is keyed to and your locksmith can pin it to the existing master. Cylinders come with 2 keys.
2) Is this a conventional cylinder or an interchangeable core?
Conventional mortise, fixed core. You rekey it by pulling the cylinder out of the lock and repinning it, not by turning a control key and swapping a core. If you want a facility where a supervisor can pull and replace cores in seconds, look at an interchangeable core product instead, such as the BEST 1CB 150 Series interchangeable core or the Schlage 20-057 FSIC rim cylinder.
3) I'm replacing a worn cylinder in a commercial mortise lock. Is this a straight swap?
It's a replacement part built for that job, and it works with all mortise locks plus DL3000 deadlocks. Three things have to line up: the cam (this one is the A07 DL4100 cam), the 1-1/4 inch length, and the keyway if you want it to run on your existing keys. Get those three right and the swap is a thread-out, thread-in. Get the cam wrong and the key will turn but the lock won't retract.
4) I need a mortise cylinder for an aluminum storefront door. Is the Corbin Russwin 1000 the right one?
Only if the storefront lock takes a Corbin Russwin cam. Aluminum storefront work is usually Adams Rite, and the Adams Rite 4036 mortise cylinder is a Grade 1 five-pin built for that hardware with a 1/2 inch minimum door thickness. If you want the door on a Corbin Russwin keyway, the 1000 Series does have Adams Rite cams in the family (A03 for MS deadlocks, A05 for the 4070), but the A07 version is cammed for DL4100, not for Adams Rite.
5) What finishes does the Corbin Russwin 1000 mortise cylinder come in, and will one match my existing lever trim?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so match the cylinder to the number already on your trim rather than to a color name. 626 satin chrome and 630 stainless trim are the usual commercial pairing, and 626 is the safe match on most existing satin chrome hardware.
