1) Is the Corbin Russwin ML2065 lever trim a complete mortise lock or just the trim?
It's trim only. The ML2065-M31 is replacement lever trim for an ML2000 Series mortise lockbody in the corridor/dormitory function. You get the lever, rose or escutcheon and thru-bolted mounting, not the lock case, latch, strike or cylinder. If your existing ML2000 body is sound and you're replacing a broken or worn lever, or changing lever design and finish across a building, this is the part. If the case itself is failing, you need a complete lockset instead.
2) Do I have to order this dormitory lever trim left hand or right hand?
Handing is field reversible on the ML2000 Series, so the trim does not have to be ordered handed for most lever designs. The series uses a quick reversible latchbolt that re-hands without disassembling the lock case. The one exception is the Dirke lever, which is offered as a left hand or right hand part, so that design has to be specified to match the door swing.
3) Will this trim fit my 1-3/4 inch doors with a 2-3/4 inch backset?
Yes. The ML2000 Series is built around a 1-3/4 inch (44mm) door as standard with a 2-3/4 inch (70mm) backset, which is the normal commercial mortise prep. Optional door thicknesses are available from the series for thicker doors. The lock case itself is 5-7/8 x 4 x 15/16 inches with an 8 x 1-1/4 inch armored front, so the existing mortise pocket and face prep carry straight over when you're only swapping trim.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Corbin Russwin ML2065 lever trim?
Three choices. Lever design: Armstrong, Citation, Dirke (left or right hand), Essex, Lustra cast or wrought, Newport, Princeton or Regis. Rose or escutcheon: A rose at 2-1/4 inch diameter, F rose at 2-7/8 inch diameter, M escutcheon or N escutcheon. Finish: 605, 606, 611, 612, 613, 613E, 618, 619, 625, 626, 629, 630, 722 or BSP black suede powder coat. Match the rose or escutcheon style to what is already on the door if you want to reuse the existing thru-bolt holes.
5) Is this trim rated for fire doors and does it meet ADA?
The ML2000 Series is UL and cUL listed to UL10C positive pressure, rated for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 by 10 feet single or 8 by 10 feet pair, and is listed to ADA A117.1 along with California State Fire Marshal and windstorm/hurricane certification. Grade is ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000, operational and security Grade 1, and the series has been cycle verified at 14.5 million cycles.
6) Will this work with our existing Corbin Russwin keyway, or do we have to re-key the building?
The ML2000 Series works with new or existing Corbin Russwin key systems and accepts most other manufacturers' cylinders. The series standard cylinder is a 6-pin L4 keyway supplied 0-bitted. Since this is trim only, the cylinder is not included, so an existing cylinder can usually be carried over into the new trim without touching your keying schedule.
7) What does the corridor/dormitory function actually do on the door?
Corridor/dormitory is the ML2065 function within the ML2000 Series. It's the classroom-corridor style arrangement used on dorm room and corridor openings where the room side controls locking and the deadbolt is part of the security. The ML2000 case carries a 1 inch stainless steel deadbolt with a 1 inch throw plus a 3/4 inch (19mm) two piece anti-friction latchbolt, and the trim spacing is 3-5/8 inches center to center lever to cylinder and 2-7/16 inches lever to thumbturn.
8) Can I standardize dorm and classroom doors on one finish across a campus?
Fourteen finishes are offered, including the three that cover most institutional work: 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless steel and 613 oil rubbed bronze. Brass and bronze options run 605, 606, 611, 612 and 613E, nickel is 618 and 619, 625 is bright chrome, 629 bright stainless, 722 black oxidized bronze oil rubbed, and BSP is a black suede powder coat. Pick one finish and one lever design and the same trim carries across the whole building.
9) Should I use rose trim or escutcheon trim on dorm room doors?
Rose trim (A at 2-1/4 inch diameter, F at 2-7/8 inch) is the smaller sectional look and covers less of the door face. Escutcheon trim (M or N) is a full plate that hides more of the original prep, which matters when you're covering up an older or mismatched cut. 10) Does the existing strike need to change when I fit this trim?
No. The trim doesn't alter latching. The ML2000 Series uses an ANSI straight lip strike, 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with 1-1/8 inch lip to center, against a 3/4 inch throw latchbolt and a 9/16 inch effective throw deadlocking auxiliary latch. Those stay as installed when only the lever, rose or escutcheon is replaced.
11) Is there a vandal resistant version for high abuse dorm corridors?
Yes, the ML2000VR option. It uses stainless steel escutcheons with tapered edges and Torx pin tamper resistant screws to resist prying and abuse. If the doors you're maintaining are seeing repeated damage, specify the VR trim rather than standard sectional rose trim.
12) If I want a different lock function later, do I have to buy a new lock body?
Not on the ML2000 Series. Twelve functions are configurable from a single ML2054 lockbody, so a corridor/dormitory opening can be changed to another function without replacing the case. That is useful for facilities that stock one body and a range of trim, and it means the ML2065 trim you buy now is part of a system rather than a one-off.
13) Can these openings be electrified for access control?
Motorized Electric Latch Retraction (MELR) is available on the ML20900 series within the ML2000 family. The ML2065 corridor/dormitory trim itself is mechanical, so if the opening needs electric latch retraction you need to specify the ML20900 electrified lock rather than add it to standard trim.
