Blackburn LCN1-12 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the LCN1-12 bolt to a 1/2 inch bus stud?
Yes. The tongue is punched for 1/2 inch stud size, so it lands on 1/2 inch bus bolts, breaker pads or ground bar studs. It is a two-hole tongue, which means two 1/2 inch fasteners and a fixed bolt spacing, so the pad you are landing on has to have matching two-hole drilling.
2) Can I use this copper lug on aluminum conductor?
No. The LCN1-12 is a copper lug sized for 1 AWG copper conductor. Terminating aluminum in a copper-only compression barrel is not a listed use. For aluminum or a dual-rated job you need a connector marked AL9CU or an aluminum-bodied lug instead.
3) What is the difference between a two-hole lug like this and a single-hole lug?
A two-hole tongue, which is what the LCN1-12 has, uses two 1/2 inch bolts instead of one. That stops the lug rotating on the pad under fault current or vibration and it is what most switchgear, transformer and bus connection specs call for on larger feeders. A one-hole lug is quicker and fine on a ground bar or a single-drilled pad, but it can spin. If the drawing says two-hole, the LCN1-12 is the shape you need.
4) Why is this lug called a long barrel, and when do I need one?
Long barrel means a longer crimp barrel than a standard lug, which gives room for two crimps instead of one. Electricians and utility crews use long barrel copper lugs like the LCN1-12 where the spec calls for a double crimp for higher pullout strength and lower resistance on a feeder or service termination. For a short standard barrel, one crimp is all the length allows.
5) What is the exact part number to order for the Blackburn 1 AWG two-hole long barrel lug?
Order Blackburn LCN1-12. That is the manufacturer part number for the copper long barrel, two-hole, 1 AWG lug with 1/2 inch stud holes.
6) What does the green color on the LCN1-12 mean?
Green is the color code on the barrel, and on copper compression lugs it identifies the die and conductor size so an inspector or the next electrician can confirm the right crimp die was used on the right wire. On this lug it corresponds to the 1 AWG barrel.
7) Is the LCN1-12 sold individually or in a bag?
Sold each. One lug per unit, so for a three-phase plus neutral termination you would order four, and count spares separately.
