Blackburn LCN20 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What wire size does the Blackburn LCN20 compression lug take?
The LCN20 is sized for 2/0 AWG copper conductor. It is a copper compression lug, so it goes on copper conductors only, not aluminum. One lug per order, sold each.
2) Will the Blackburn LCN20 lug bolt to a 1/2 inch stud on my bus bar?
Yes. The LCN20 has two bolt holes sized for a 1/2 inch stud. Two-hole means it will not rotate on the pad, which is what you want on larger feeders, but your bus or breaker pad has to have the matching two-hole spacing drilled for it.
3) Can I use the LCN20 on aluminum conductor?
No. It's a copper-bodied lug specified for copper cable. Terminating aluminum in it risks a dissimilar-metal connection, so use an aluminum-bodied or dual-rated AL9CU lug for aluminum feeders instead.
4) What voltage is the LCN20 copper lug rated for?
Rated to 35 kV, so it is usable in medium-voltage terminations as well as ordinary 600 V distribution work. It carries a UL file listing under E9809.
5) Does the Blackburn LCN20 lug come insulated?
No. The barrel is bare copper with no insulation or sleeve, finished black. If the termination needs covering you will need to add heat shrink or a separate boot.
6) What does long barrel mean on this lug and when should I use one instead of a standard barrel?
Long barrel means the crimp sleeve is extended so it takes two crimps instead of one, giving more contact area and better pull-out strength on the conductor. The LCN20 is a long barrel two-hole lug for 2/0 AWG copper. Standard short-barrel lugs are fine for general 600 V work; the long barrel is what gets specified where the termination is under mechanical stress or where the medium-voltage spec calls for it.
7) Is the Blackburn LCN20 a compression lug or a mechanical set-screw lug?
It's a compression (crimp) type cable lug, not a set-screw connector, so it needs a hydraulic or battery crimp tool with the correct die for 2/0 copper. If you want a lug you can land with a hex key in the field, you need a mechanical set-screw lug instead.
8) Are bolts and washers included with the LCN20 lug?
No hardware is included. The LCN20 ships as the bare lug alone, one per unit, so order your 1/2 inch bolts, flat and Belleville washers, and nuts separately to match the pad you are landing on.
9) Where is the Blackburn LCN20 lug made?
Manufactured in Mexico. For jobs with domestic-sourcing requirements on the bill of materials, that country of origin is worth confirming against your spec before you commit to the quantity.
