Blackburn LCN6-14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will this lug bolt to a 1/4 inch stud on my panel or busbar?
Yes. The LCN6-14 has 1/4 inch bolt holes, so it lands on 1/4 inch studs or 1/4 inch drilled busbar. There are two holes in the tongue, so the bar or pad needs two 1/4 inch holes at matching spacing, a single-stud pad won't take it.
2) Can I use this lug on aluminum conductor?
No. The LCN6-14 is a copper-bodied compression lug for copper conductor. For aluminum or dual-rated runs you need a lug marked AL9CU, not this one.
3) What does the two-hole tongue on the LCN6-14 get me over a single-hole lug?
Two bolts instead of one. A two-hole tongue keeps the lug from rotating under torque or vibration and spreads the contact pressure across the pad, which is why it's specified on switchgear, transformer pads and grounding bars. If your pad only has one hole, you need a single-hole 6 AWG lug instead.
4) What is a long barrel lug for, and do I need it here?
The long barrel on the LCN6-14 gives room for two crimps instead of one, which is what a lot of utility and switchgear specs call for on pull-out resistance. If your spec only calls for a single crimp, a standard barrel 6 AWG lug does the same electrical job in less space, the long barrel just needs more clearance behind the pad.
5) Do I need a special crimp tool for this Blackburn lug?
It's a compression lug, so it needs a hydraulic or mechanical crimper with the die matched to the color code. The barrel is color coded blue for 6 AWG, so set the tool to the blue die position. It is not a set-screw mechanical lug, an Allen key won't do it.
6) Is the LCN6-14 sold individually or in a bag of multiples?
Sold each. Order the count you need for the job, there's no fixed bag quantity to work around.
7) Where is the Blackburn LCN6-14 made, for our domestic-content paperwork?
Country of origin is Mexico. If your project carries a Buy American or domestic-content requirement on electrical connectors, this part won't satisfy it.
