OATEY AP9818 Dearborn® 1-1/2" x 8" Branch Tailpiece, Hi-Line w/ 1/2" Branch

The AP9818 is a 1-1/2 inch by 8 inch sink tailpiece with a 1/2 inch threaded side branch, so you can pick up a secondary drain (dishwasher, water softener, condensate, or an air gap line) at the tailpiece instead of cutting a separate connection into the trap arm. The branch sits 2 inches from center. It drops between the sink strainer and the P-trap and connects with a slip joint nut and washer.

Hi-Line means the top of the tailpiece is flanged rather than plain, so the flange seats up inside the strainer body and the strainer's slip nut pulls it tight. That is the standard arrangement on a kitchen basket strainer. If what you have is a plain unflanged tailpiece held by a coupling nut and washer, order the direct-connect style instead, not this one.

It is threaded, not a barb. You thread your fitting or adapter onto the 1/2 inch branch rather than clamping a hose over it, so plan on the matching threaded adapter for whatever appliance line you are landing there.

The AP9818 itself is fixed at a 1/2 inch branch. Dearborn does build this branch tailpiece with a 3/4 inch branch, so if your appliance line needs the larger connection, order that version rather than trying to bush up off the 1/2 inch.

The tailpiece uses a slip joint nut and washer for the lower connection. Dearborn also offers this branch tailpiece with the True Blue Premium Washer for a better seal, which is worth specifying if the joint is in a hard to reach cabinet you do not want to revisit.

Black polypropylene. It is made to work with soft plastic pipe, so it pairs with plastic tubular drain lines and slip joint connections. If the exposed plumbing under the sink is white, Dearborn builds the same tailpiece in white polypropylene as well.
