It is the tailpiece that drops out of a sink strainer or basket and carries a side branch connection, so a dishwasher drain hose or a similar small line can tie into the sink drain without cutting in a separate wye. The 814ET-1 is a 1-1/2 inch by 8 inch tailpiece with a 7/8 inch branch and a hose and clamp to secure the hose to it. The slip joint top joins to the strainer, and the nut-down configuration means the slip nut rides on the lower end of the joint.

The branch is 3 inches to center. That matters when you are fitting under a shallow cabinet or around a disposer body, because it fixes where the dishwasher hose leaves the tailpiece on an 8 inch overall length. Measure from the strainer face down to the obstruction before you commit.

The branch is a nominal sweat style, 7/8 inch outside diameter for 1/2 inch nominal sweat, so a copper line can be sweated to it. The part ships with a hose and clamp as well, so you can use it either way: clamp a flexible dishwasher hose over the branch, or solder a rigid 1/2 inch copper line. The body is brass, which takes solder fine, but pull the slip joint washers and nut away from the heat first.

Brass, 20 gauge tubing, finished in chrome. Chrome is what you want where the tailpiece is visible, such as an exposed sink in a commercial restroom or an open-base fixture. Dearborn also lists the same tailpiece in rough brass if the piping is concealed in a cabinet and appearance does not matter.

The tailpiece is supplied with the hose and clamp for the branch connection and is built as a slip joint top in the nut-down arrangement. For the slip joint itself, plan on having the appropriate 1-1/2 inch slip nut and washer on hand, since those are consumables that normally get replaced with any trap rework. Nothing else is required to make the branch connection beyond the hose or a 1/2 inch copper stub.
