OATEY O1004 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size and connection does the Oatey Dearborn 1004 adapter use?
The Dearborn 1004 is a 1-1/4 inch by 1-1/4 inch adapter with a male thread on one end and a female copper sweat socket on the other. So it takes 1-1/4 inch copper tube soldered into the socket, and threads into a 1-1/4 inch female connection on the other side.
2) Can I use the Oatey 1004 to connect 1-1/4 inch copper tubing to a threaded trap or tailpiece?
That is exactly what it does. The socket end accepts 1-1/4 inch copper tube for soldering, and the male threaded end mates to a 1-1/4 inch female threaded fitting. Both ends are the same 1-1/4 inch size, so there is no reduction across the adapter.
3) Is the Oatey 1004 a solder fitting or a compression fitting?
Solder. The copper side is a female sweat socket, so the tube slips in and is soldered or brazed. There is no nut or ferrule on that end, so you will need flux and solder to make the joint.
