OATEY 7557 Dearborn® 3-1/4" O.D x 2-1/8" Tank to Bowl Sponge Rubber Gasket for Close Couple Connection

The Dearborn 7557 sponge rubber tank to bowl gasket measures 3-1/4 inches outside diameter with a 2-1/8 inch inside opening. Measure the flush valve shank or the tank outlet spud on your toilet against those two numbers before ordering, because a gasket that is too large in the bore will not seal against the spud.

That is exactly what it is for. The 7557 is a close couple connection gasket, meaning it seats between the tank outlet and the bowl inlet on a standard two-piece toilet where the tank bolts directly onto the bowl. It does not apply to one-piece toilets or to tanks mounted away from the bowl on an elbow.

Just the gasket. The 7557 is the sponge rubber doughnut alone. If the tank bolts, brass washers, or rubber bolt washers on the toilet are corroded, order those separately, since a leak at the bolt holes will look identical to a failed tank to bowl gasket.

Sponge rubber, like the 7557, compresses under the tank bolts and forms the seal by squeeze, which is what most standard close coupled two-piece toilets use. Tapered cone or jumbo style gaskets are for tanks with an oversized or unusually deep spud. Match the 3-1/4 inch outside diameter and 2-1/8 inch opening of the 7557 to what you pulled out rather than the shape you remember.

It is a sensible MRO stock item for properties running common two-piece close coupled toilets. The part is light, 0.092 in listed product weight, so it carries no meaningful shelf or shipping burden, and tank to bowl gaskets are a routine recurring failure as the sponge takes a set and weeps at the base of the tank. Confirm the 3-1/4 inch O.D. and 2-1/8 inch opening matches your fixture fleet before standardizing on it.
