Deltana 6BB-32D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Deltana 6BB barrel bolt and where does it mount?
The Deltana 6BB is a 6 inch barrel bolt, mounted on the inside face of a door so it throws into a strike on the frame or into an adjacent door leaf. It is a secondary security bolt, meant to be used when the main lock isn't engaged, not as the primary lock on the opening.
2) Can I use the Deltana 6BB barrel bolt on a commercial fire-rated door?
No. The 6BB is a residential-duty surface bolt. Fire-rated and code-governed commercial openings need a listed flush bolt or an automatic/constant-latching bolt approved for that assembly, not a surface barrel bolt. For apartment unit interiors, storage rooms, and non-rated residential doors it's the right kind of part.
3) Will a 6 inch barrel bolt secure the inactive leaf of a pair of doors?
For a residential pair such as French doors, yes, if you mount it vertically on the inactive leaf to throw into the head or into a floor strike. A 6 inch body gives you enough reach to set the strike clear of the astragal. On commercial pairs, use flush bolts made for that application instead of this residential surface bolt.
4) Is the Deltana 6BB barrel bolt stainless steel all the way through, or just plated?
Solid stainless steel. Both the material and the substrate are stainless, so the finish isn't a plating over a base metal like brass or zinc. That matters if the bolt goes on a coastal entry door, a pool gate side door, or a laundry or utility room where a plated bolt tends to bloom.
5) Does the Deltana barrel bolt have a handing, and can it be mounted vertically or horizontally?
There's no handing on a barrel bolt. The bolt slides straight in its barrel, so the same 6BB works on a left or right hand door and can be set horizontally into a jamb strike or vertically into the head or the threshold. Orientation is decided by where you want the strike, not by the part.
6) What is the Deltana model number for the 6 inch stainless barrel bolt in brushed stainless?
Order it as 6BB32D. The 6BB is the 6 inch barrel bolt and the 32D suffix is Deltana's brushed stainless finish code. Orderable as a single model, 6BB-32D, and sold each rather than by the pair, so specify quantity if you're doing both leaves of a French door.
7) Do I need to drill the door for a Deltana 6BB barrel bolt?
No bore prep in the door face. A barrel bolt surface mounts with screws on the inside of the door, and the only drilling is the strike hole in the jamb, head, or floor where the bolt lands. That makes it a common retrofit on doors already bored for a lockset, with no second cross bore required.
