Deltana UFB5000U15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a 2 inch floor bumper be tall enough to catch my door if there's carpet or a big gap under it?
The Deltana UFB5000 stands 2 inches tall, so it contacts the door face 2 inches above whatever it's screwed down to. A floor bumper only works if it stands taller than the gap under the door once carpet or a mat is accounted for, so measure from the finished floor surface (top of the pile, not the subfloor) to the bottom of the door and make sure that's comfortably under 2 inches. On a standard undercut over hard flooring, 2 inches gives plenty of margin. Over deep pile you're using most of it. For openings where 2 inches is too tall and you want the strike point lower, the Emtek 2257 cylindrical floor bumper is 1-1/2 inches and the Emtek 2254 floor door bumper is 1-3/8 by 1-1/4 inches.
2) Will the Deltana UFB5000 hold a door open, or does it only stop it?
Stopping only. The UFB5000 is a floor-mounted door bumper, it takes the swing and protects the wall, but there's no catch, lever, or magnet on it to keep the door standing open. If the job actually calls for hold-open, look at the Ives FS40 / FS41 / FS42 / FS43 automatic floor stop and holder with adjustable door-to-floor clearance, the SOSS MDH magnetic door holder and stop at 3-5/16 by 1-3/4 inches, or the Orca 22HD Series gooseneck, which is listed as a door holder. Ordering a bumper when someone wanted a holder is the most common mix-up on floor stops.
3) The 2 inch Deltana UFB5000 bumper is taller than the clearance under my door - what floor bumper sits lower?
The Deltana UFB5000 stands 2 inches tall, so it needs a door with enough undercut to swing over it. For a lower profile, the Emtek 2254 floor door bumper measures 1-3/8 inches by 1-1/4 inches, and the Emtek 2257 is a 1-1/2 inch cylindrical floor bumper. Orca Hardware's 23LP is a low rise dome floor stop with a gray tip, the flattest shape in the group. Measure from the finished floor to the point on the door face that will strike the stop, then pick the height that clears the sweep or threshold.
4) What finishes does the Deltana UFB5000 floor bumper come in, and can I match it to the rest of my door hardware?
Twelve finishes, which covers most of what's already hanging on a door: Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Brushed Brass, Unlacquered Brass, PVD Polished Brass, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Oil Rubbed Bronze, and Paint Black. Pick off the hinges and the lever trim on the same opening rather than off a paint chip, since brushed and antique versions of the same base metal read very differently side by side.
5) Polished brass, unlacquered brass, or PVD polished brass on a floor bumper: which one should I order?
All three are on the UFB5000 and they age completely differently. Unlacquered Brass is a living finish, it darkens and spots with handling and mop water and will look nothing like day one within a season, which some clients want and most property managers do not. Polished Brass is lacquered bright brass, so it holds its color until the lacquer wears, and down at floor level a vacuum or a mop hits it constantly. PVD Polished Brass is a vapor-deposited coating over the brass, the hardest of the three against wear and tarnish, and it's the one to specify for a lobby, a corridor, or anywhere housekeeping runs equipment past it every day.
6) Does the Deltana UFB5000 come with screws, or do I need to buy mounting hardware separately?
Mounting hardware ships with it. Each UFB5000 comes individually packed in a poly bag with its mounting hardware, so for a wood subfloor there's nothing else to order. Concrete, tile, or terrazzo is the case to plan for: you'll want an anchor suited to that substrate, and on tile you're drilling through the tile into whatever is behind it, so size the anchor to the real holding material rather than the surface.
7) Round floor bumper vs a dome stop vs a gooseneck: which style of floor stop do I want?
It comes down to how high up the door you need to make contact and whether the door has to stay put. The UFB5000 is a round bumper standing 2 inches off the floor, which catches the door on its face and keeps the footprint small and simple. A dome stop sits lower and rounder, so it's less to trip over and less to catch a vacuum on, the Emtek 2251 half dome, the Ives FS13 and FS17 brass floor dome stops, and the Orca 23LP low-rise dome are the ones we carry. A gooseneck rises on a riser to catch the door higher, useful when the door bottom is a long way off the floor or you want the contact point away from the door edge, and that's the Delaney gooseneck, the Emtek 2253 goose style, or the Orca 22HD, which also holds the door.
8) Is this floor bumper good enough for a commercial building, or should I be buying heavy duty?
The UFB5000 is classed for commercial use and is solid brass, which suits apartment corridors, offices, hotel guestrooms, and tenant suites, the openings where the door is stopped normally and nobody is throwing it. For abuse-level traffic, an ER wing, a school corridor, a loading area, the peers we carry with a stated heavy-duty rating are the Ives FS13 and FS17 brass floor dome stops and the Ives FS18S/FS18L security floor stop. On a big MRO standardization it's common to run the Deltana in the finish-sensitive front-of-house areas and a heavy-duty Ives in the back of house.
9) I'm worried about a floor stop being a trip hazard in a corridor. Is there a lower profile option than a 2 inch bumper?
At 2 inches the UFB5000 sits up high enough to be felt underfoot if it lands in a walking path, which is fine behind a door in a guestroom or an office and less fine mid-corridor. Set it tight to the wall or door swing arc where nobody walks. If it has to sit out in the path, the low-profile options we stock are the Orca 23LP Series low-rise dome floor stop, the Emtek 2251 half dome, and the Emtek 2254 floor door bumper at 1-3/8 by 1-1/4 inches.
10) For a high traffic commercial corridor, is the Deltana UFB5000 enough or should I spec something heavier?
The Deltana UFB5000 is solid brass, designated for commercial use, and stands 2 inches tall. Where you want a published duty designation on the paperwork, Ives carries a heavy duty level on its floor stops: the FS13 and FS17 are heavy-duty brass floor dome stops, and the FS18S and FS18L security floor stops carry the same heavy duty designation. The FS13 specifies a replaceable rubber bumper, which is the detail to weigh if your maintenance crew expects to service tips rather than pull and re-anchor whole stops.
11) Is a gooseneck floor stop a drop-in replacement for the Deltana UFB5000?
No. The Deltana UFB5000 is a 2 inch round bumper that rises straight off the floor and meets the door face at that height. A gooseneck stop, such as the Delaney gooseneck floor door stop, the Emtek 2253 goose style door stop, or Orca Hardware's 22HD goose neck floor stop with black tip, arches out on a curved neck so the tip contacts the door at a different height and at a different distance from the anchor point. The Orca 22HD is a door holder rather than a plain stop as well. Changing between the two shapes means new anchor holes in the floor and a different contact point on the door.
12) I want a floor stop with a serviceable rubber tip - how does that compare to the Deltana UFB5000?
If a field-replaceable tip is the deciding factor, the Ives FS13 is a heavy-duty brass floor dome stop specified with a replaceable rubber bumper, and the Ives FS17 is a heavy-duty brass floor dome stop with a rubber bumper. The Deltana UFB5000 is a solid brass round floor bumper at a 2 inch height, packed individually in a poly bag with its mounting hardware, so a single carton line covers the stop and the fasteners for the opening.
13) Is the Deltana UFB5000 solid brass all the way through or just plated?
Solid brass, both the material and the substrate, so the finish sits on brass rather than on plated zinc or pot metal. That matters on a floor stop more than most hardware: it's the one piece of door hardware that gets mopped, kicked, and vacuumed into, and a plated diecast body chips at the impact point and then corrodes from the inside out. Brass under the finish just wears.
14) The rubber tips on my floor stops keep getting torn up. Can the bumper tip be replaced, or do I swap the whole stop?
If replaceable tips are the deciding factor, the Ives FS13 heavy-duty brass floor dome stop is the one we carry that states a replaceable rubber bumper, and it's the better call for a facility where a maintenance tech should be able to fix a chewed-up stop from the parts cart instead of pulling and re-drilling. The Deltana UFB5000 is bought and installed as a unit, in solid brass with the finish carried across twelve options, so it's the pick where matching the rest of the trim on the opening is what matters most.
15) How is the Deltana UFB5000 sold, individually or in a box of multiples?
Sold each. Every UFB5000 is packed on its own in a poly bag with its mounting hardware, so on a building-wide replacement you order one per opening and each one arrives ready to install, no counting screws out of a bulk box. Finish is chosen per unit too, which is worth knowing if a property runs one finish front of house and a different one in service areas.
16) How do I keep the Deltana UFB5000 straight against the Emtek floor bumpers when I am writing up an order?
Identify them by size and shape. The Deltana UFB5000 is the UFB series round universal floor bumper in solid brass at a 2 inch height. The Emtek 2254 is a floor door bumper measuring 1-3/8 inches by 1-1/4 inches, and the Emtek 2257 is a 1-1/2 inch cylindrical floor bumper from Emtek's Cylinder series. Delaney names its two by shape rather than size, the gooseneck floor door stop and the dome door stop, so the part number rather than the description is what pins those down.
17) What is the difference between the Deltana UFB5000 and the Ives FS18S or FS18L security floor stop?
The Deltana UFB5000 is a round universal floor bumper, solid brass, 2 inches tall, meant to arrest the door and protect the wall on a general opening. The Ives FS18S and FS18L are security floor stops carrying a heavy duty designation, sold under two separate part numbers, and are the ones to quote where the specification calls out a security stop rather than a decorative bumper. The two are not interchangeable on a spec that names one or the other.
