Yes. The Santoprene SS-S seal is Classified by UL for hollow metal fire doors rated up to and including 3 hours. On wood doors the rating tops out at 1-1/2 hours, so if you're gasketing a wood opening carrying a longer rating, this isn't the seal for it. It has been fire tested to UL 10B and UL 10C, UBC7-2 Part 1 and BS476.

Both. Beyond the fire testing, the SS-S seal is smoke tested and listed to the requirements of UL 1784, UBC7-2 Part II and BS476. That's the listing an AHJ looks for on a smoke barrier or corridor door assembly, not just a fire door. The Santoprene extrusion is what does the work, forming a barrier smoke cannot easily pass through.

No drilling, no kerf, no screws. The Santoprene seal has a self adhesive backing that presses onto the face or stop of the door frame, which is why it's the common choice for retrofitting existing openings where you can't pull the frame or route a kerf. Clean the stop first and the tape does the rest. That also makes it the seal a maintenance tech can install without a mill or a helper.

The extrusion is 1/2 inch wide. That's the dimension that decides whether it lands cleanly on your frame stop, so measure the flat of the stop before ordering. A 1/2 inch strip sits fine on typical hollow metal stops without overhanging into the door swing or crowding the hinge leaf.

The material here is extruded thermoplastic rubber, Santoprene #251-80, chosen for resistance to compression set, ozone, ultraviolet exposure, fungus and mildew, and it's flame retardant. Compression set resistance is the one that matters over years of service: it's what keeps the seal springing back after thousands of closings instead of flattening into a permanent dent and leaving a gap. The UV and mildew resistance make it workable in stairwells, garages and humid corridors.

That's a reasonable fit for it. One product covers hollow metal openings up to a 3 hour rating and wood openings up to 1-1/2 hours, so a single line item can gasket most of a facility's rated doors instead of stocking several profiles. It's supplied in continuous rolls of 17, 21 or 25 feet rather than cut jamb and head pieces, so you cut to each opening on site and there's no per-door-size ordering. The self adhesive backing means the retrofits go in without touching the frames.

It's purely an appearance call, not a performance one. Both colors are the same Santoprene extrusion with the same UL fire and smoke listings. White disappears against a light painted or primed hollow metal frame; brown blends with dark bronze, wood tone and factory dark frames. If you are standardizing across a building, note that brown is also stocked in a 25 foot roll on top of the 17 and 21 foot lengths, which is useful when you're gasketing tall or paired openings in volume.
