Detex 01CN 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Detex exit devices does the C, CM, CV, or CNV trim fit?
Pick the trim letter off the device series you already have on the door. C Trim goes on 10, 20, 21 and 27 Series devices; CM Trim on 40, 50 and 51 Series; CV Trim on 70 and 80 Series; CNV Trim on 62 and 63 Series. All four are outside trim for Detex Advantex Series devices, so the trim letter is the first thing to get right on the order, ahead of function and finish.
2) I need to change a Detex exit device from exit-only to key entry. Do I have to pull the device off the door?
No. The Detex C series outside trim works with the device mounting plate so the function changes by swapping the outside trim alone, with the exit device staying on the door. That means going from an 01 exit-only cover plate to an 03 key-retracts-latch trim is a trim order, not a device order, and the door stays hung while you do it.
3) What is the difference between Detex 01, 02 and 03 trim?
Three different levels of outside access. 01 is a plain cover plate, exit only, with no way in from outside. 02 is a dummy pull on a blank escutcheon, so there is a handle to grab but it does not operate the latch. 03 is key retracts latch, which is the only one of the three that lets someone in from the outside with a key. If the outside of that door never needs to open, 01 is what you want, and it is also the cheapest thing to keep on hand as a blank-off.
4) Will Detex C trim work on a Von Duprin or Precision exit device?
No. This is Detex outside trim cut for Detex Advantex Series devices, and the trim letter is matched to a specific Detex device series: C for 10/20/21/27, CM for 40/50/51, CV for 70/80, CNV for 62/63. Another manufacturer's device has its own chassis and mounting plate, so you need that brand's trim. Identify the device series stamped on the chassis before ordering.
5) Someone smashed the outside pull on our panic door. Do I need a whole new exit device?
Usually not. If the damage is to the outside trim, the C series trim is the replaceable part, and it comes off and goes back on without taking the exit device off the door. Order the same trim letter for your device series, the same function, and the finish that matches the rest of the openings. The device, latch and mounting plate stay put.
6) Do I get a cylinder with the Detex 03 key-retracts-latch trim?
The 03 trim is the function that accepts a key from outside, and the trim itself is the plate and pull assembly. Plan the cylinder as a separate line on the order and match it to the keyway your building is already on, so the new opening keys into the same system as the rest of the doors.
7) Is Detex C series trim heavy enough for a school or a hospital corridor door?
It is built for that traffic. The C series trim is commercial, heavy-duty, and Detex builds it to stand up as well as the panic device it mounts to, which is the piece taking the abuse on a high-traffic opening. Schools, healthcare, retail, warehouse and multi-tenant residential openings are the intended range.
8) I have a bank of doors with different Detex devices on them. Can I standardize the outside trim?
You can standardize the function and the finish, but not the trim letter. Function 01, 02 or 03 and any of the nine finishes can run across the whole bank, so every door looks and behaves the same from outside. The trim letter still has to follow each device: C for 10/20/21/27 Series, CM for 40/50/51, CV for 70/80, CNV for 62/63. Walk the doors, note the device series on each, then order one function and finish in the letters you need.
9) What finishes are available on Detex C series exit device trim?
Nine finishes across the C, CM, CV and CNV trims: 605 aluminum painted, 606 black painted, 611 dark bronze painted, 612 brushed bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 629 polished stainless steel, 630 brushed stainless steel, 693 black painted and 695 dark bronze. If you are matching trim to devices already installed in the building, 630 brushed stainless and 313-family dark bronze tones are the usual commercial pairings, so read the finish number off an existing plate rather than matching by eye.
10) Are the Detex trim functions standard BHMA functions I can put on a spec?
Yes. The 01, 02 and 03 trim functions follow BHMA function descriptions, so the function you write on the door schedule reads the same way an architect or another supplier would read it. That is what makes it practical to standardize one function across a facility and reorder against it later.
