Detex SIFV-EA-CD-36IN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Detex SIFV-EA-CD-36IN slide-in filler kit actually for?
It is a replacement/accessory kit for Detex Value Series exit devices that adds or restores two functions in one slide-in assembly: cylinder dogging and a hardwired electric alarm. The filler slides into the existing device assembly rather than replacing the whole exit device, so you keep the rails and chassis already on the door.
2) Does the Detex SIFV filler kit come in a size other than 36 inch?
Two lengths are offered, 36 and 48. Match the length to the exit device length already on the door, since the filler is sized to slide into that specific device width. Ordering a 48 for a 36 inch device will not fit.
3) Is the alarm on the SIFV-EA-CD kit battery powered or wired?
Hardwired. The electric alarm in this kit is a wired unit, so plan a power run to the device rather than budgeting for battery swaps. That makes it a fit where the alarm needs to tie into building monitoring at a controlled egress point.
4) What does cylinder dogging on this Detex filler kit let me do?
Cylinder dogging lets authorized staff key the device so the latch stays retracted, holding the door in push-pull free operation during business hours. It takes a key, so unlike hex dogging only someone with the cylinder key can set or release it. Note that dogging is generally not permitted on fire rated openings.
5) Can I standardize a building's exit devices with this kit instead of replacing the hardware?
That is the intent. Because it is a slide-in filler for Detex Value Series devices, a property manager can bring existing openings up to alarmed, key-dogged operation without swapping complete exit devices, as long as each door already carries a compatible Detex Value Series device in the matching 36 or 48 length.
6) What is the exact model number to order for a 36 inch Detex device?
SIFV-EA-CD-36IN. The suffixes break down as EA for the hardwired electric alarm, CD for cylinder dogging, and 36IN for the device length. The 48 inch version is the same kit sized for the longer device.
7) Is this Detex kit suitable for residential doors?
No. The SIFV-EA-CD is a commercial-grade exit device part, intended for offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings and government facilities, not for a single-family home door.
