Detex SIFV-EB-W-CD-36IN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Detex SIFV-EB-W-CD slide-in filler kit actually do on an exit device?
It's a slide-in filler kit for Detex Value Series exit devices that brings two functions with it: cylinder dogging, so authorized staff can hold the latch retracted with a key, and a self-contained battery-powered electric alarm that sounds when the device is used. It installs as a drop-in replacement component in a compatible in-use device rather than as a complete exit device.
2) Is the Detex SIFV-EB-W-CD filler kit a complete exit device or just a part?
Just a part. The SIFV-EB-W-CD is a commercial replacement part for an existing Detex Value Series exit device, not a standalone panic device. If the door has no exit device on it yet, you need the full device first.
3) Which device lengths does the Detex slide-in filler kit come in?
Two sizes are offered, one for 36-inch devices and one for 48-inch devices. Match the kit to the length of the exit device already on the door, not to the door width, since the filler has to span the device rail.
4) Do I need to run power to the door for the alarm on this Detex kit?
No wiring needed. The alarm is self-contained and battery operated, so there's no hardwired power connection or transformer to pull. That makes it practical on an exterior egress door where getting power to the opening would mean opening up the frame.
5) Will this Detex filler kit fit any brand of exit device?
No. It is built for compatible Detex Value Series in-use devices only. Putting it on another manufacturer's panic bar is not something the kit is configured for, so identify the existing device as a Detex Value Series unit before ordering.
6) Can I use this Detex filler kit on an exterior door that sees rain and cold?
Yes. The W in SIFV-EB-W-CD is the weatherized build, made for exterior doors and locations exposed to moisture and temperature swings. That is the version to order for a rear exit or loading dock door.
7) Is a cylinder included with the cylinder dogging version of this Detex kit?
The kit provides the cylinder dogging function, which operates with a standard cylinder key. Plan on supplying a cylinder keyed to your building system if you want the dogging keyed alike with the rest of the property.
8) Is this Detex part suitable for institutional buildings like schools and hospitals?
It is a commercial-grade part, and typical applications include educational facility egress points, healthcare exit corridors, government buildings, retail exits, and multi-tenant residential common area doors. For a facility standardizing on Detex Value Series devices, it's a way to add alarm and keyed dogging to existing openings without swapping the whole device.
