1) Can the Klein Tools 935DAGL digital level be used on PVC pipe or does it only stick to metal?
On its own the 935DAGL holds with a permanent rare earth magnetic base, so it attaches to ferromagnetic surfaces only (black iron, steel conduit, cast iron). For PVC, copper, or other non-magnetic pipe and conduit, you need the optional Plumber's Kit, Cat. No. 69346, which carries it on pipe up to 6 inches outer diameter. Plan on ordering that kit if the job is plastic DWV or water line work.
2) Does the 935DAGL have the drain pitches already set, or do I have to dial in 1/4 inch per foot every time?
The pitches are pre-programmed. The 935DAGL comes loaded with the common target slopes of 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch per foot, so you pick the one you need instead of entering an angle. Set the audible alarm and the LCD changes color when you hit the target, which means you can watch the pipe instead of the screen while you shim.
3) Will the 935DAGL sit on EMT conduit without rolling off while I set a bend?
Yes. There are V-grooves machined into both the top and bottom faces, so the level seats on round stock for conduit bending and pipe alignment rather than teetering on a flat edge. On steel EMT the rare earth magnet holds it in place; on aluminum or PVC conduit you would need the 69346 Plumber's Kit to secure it.
4) Can I level something on two axes at once with this, like a pad or a cabinet base?
Yes. The 935DAGL reads 0 to 90 degrees, 0 to 180 degrees, or a dual-axis bullseye mode that gives you X and Y at the same time, so you can set a mount or base plate flat in both directions without repositioning. The display also auto-rotates between horizontal and vertical use.
5) Is this digital level small enough to carry in a pouch, and what does it weigh?
It is a torpedo-size tool, 4.57 inches long by 2.48 inches high by 1.36 inches wide, and 7 oz (200 g) with batteries. That fits a tool pouch or bag easily. A soft carrying case comes with it.
