DORMA 712S Series

700 Series - Standard duty stops/holders

900 Series - Heavy duty stops/holders

Functions

S - Stop Only
F - Friction Stop
H - Stop/Hold

Stop only units (S function) are designed to limit the degree of door swing while providing a cushioned stop. These units are a good choice for use on labeled fire doors where hold open is prohibited.

Stop/Hold units (H function) function like stop only units with an added selective on/off hold open feature. An inconspicuous slot screw on the face of the track channel allows field engagement/disengagement of hold open. Stop/hold is recommended where non-labeled doors must be held in the open position.

Friction/Stop (F function) units provide a cushioned limiting stop and adjustable friction stay. The accessible screw on top of the slide shoe allows field adjustment of the friction. This option provides a method of holding non- labeled doors at multiple positions without readjustment. Available in 700/710 Series only.

Product details

Durable and visually pleasing

Separate stops and holders are the preferred method of limiting door swing. They are ideal where the use of wall or floor stops is precluded. The 700/900 Series high quality units are both durable and visually pleasing.

Highest quality materials

DORMA stops and holders are designed and manufactured from the highest quality materials to provide optimum service under heavy-duty use.

Different finishes available

A standard two-coat paint finish is the best choice to match sprayed DORMA door closers. Optional plated finishes are also available.

Dormakaba 712S 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door sizes does the Dorma 712S accommodate?
The Dorma 712S fits doors with 27-1/8" to 36" openings. Verify your door width before ordering. Check manufacturer specifications for weight capacity limits.
2) Is this closer suitable for exterior doors?
As a standard duty closer, the 712S works best on interior doors or light-use exterior applications. Heavy traffic or severe weather conditions may require a heavy-duty model.
3) What does "stop only" mean for door operation?
Stop only means this closer controls door closing speed without hold-open features. The door closes automatically from any open position without stopping at predetermined angles.
4) Can I install this on left or right-hand doors?
Most concealed closers are field-reversible for either hand. Confirm handing compatibility with the installation template. Some models require specific ordering for left or right swing.
5) What finish options are available?
Dorma typically offers standard finishes like aluminum, bronze, or painted options. Since the closer is concealed, finish visibility is minimal. Check product specifications for exact finish availability.
6) Does this closer meet ADA requirements?
Standard duty closers may not meet ADA opening force requirements. Verify force ratings against local accessibility codes. Heavy-duty models often provide better ADA compliance.
7) What tools are needed for installation?
Installation requires drilling equipment, screwdrivers, and measuring tools. Follow the manufacturer template precisely. Concealed closers need accurate mortising in door and frame.
8) How do I adjust closing speed?
Most Dorma closers have adjustment screws for closing speed and latch speed. Turn clockwise to slow, counterclockwise to speed up. Make small adjustments and test operation.
9) Are replacement parts available?
Common wear items like seals and springs are typically available. Check with door closer suppliers for part numbers. Some internal components may require full unit replacement.
10) What's the difference between standard and heavy duty?
Standard duty handles lighter doors and lower traffic. Heavy duty provides more closing force, better durability, and typically meets commercial code requirements for high-traffic applications.
11) Can this work with automatic operators?
Concealed closers can interfere with some automatic door operators. Consult operator manufacturer specifications. Some installations require closer bypass or special coordination.
