DORMA 700/900 Series

700 Series - Standard duty stops/holders

900 Series - Heavy duty stops/holders

Functions

S - Stop Only
F - Friction Stop
H - Stop/Hold

Stop only units (S function) are designed to limit the degree of door swing while providing a cushioned stop. These units are a good choice for use on labeled fire doors where hold open is prohibited.

Stop/Hold units (H function) function like stop only units with an added selective on/off hold open feature. An inconspicuous slot screw on the face of the track channel allows field engagement/disengagement of hold open. Stop/hold is recommended where non-labeled doors must be held in the open position.

Friction/Stop (F function) units provide a cushioned limiting stop and adjustable friction stay. The accessible screw on top of the slide shoe allows field adjustment of the friction. This option provides a method of holding non- labeled doors at multiple positions without readjustment. Available in 700/710 Series only.

Product details

Durable and visually pleasing

Separate stops and holders are the preferred method of limiting door swing. They are ideal where the use of wall or floor stops is precluded. The 700/900 Series high quality units are both durable and visually pleasing.

Highest quality materials

DORMA stops and holders are designed and manufactured from the highest quality materials to provide optimum service under heavy-duty use.

Different finishes available

A standard two-coat paint finish is the best choice to match sprayed DORMA door closers. Optional plated finishes are also available.

Several unit types available

Dormakaba 713S 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use a DORMA 713S stop on a labeled fire door?
That is exactly what the S function is for. Stop only units limit the door swing with a cushioned stop and have no hold open, which is what you want on labeled fire doors where hold open is prohibited. If you want hold open on a non-labeled opening, order the H (stop/hold) function instead, or the F friction stop for holding at multiple positions.
2) What is the difference between the DORMA 713S stop only and the stop/hold version?
Function letter is the whole difference. S limits swing and cushions the stop, nothing more. H adds a selective on/off hold open, engaged or disengaged in the field with a slot screw on the face of the track channel, so a porter can turn hold open off without pulling the unit. F gives a cushioned stop plus an adjustable friction stay, set with a screw on top of the slide shoe, which holds a non-labeled door at multiple positions. F is only offered in the 700/710 Series.
3) Is the DORMA 713S heavy duty enough for a high traffic entrance?
No, and this is where people order wrong. The 700 Series is DORMA's standard duty stop/holder line; the 900 Series is the heavy duty line. For a busy building entrance, a stairwell that gets kicked, or an abused door, step up. Heavy duty concealed options we carry from other brands include the Glynn-Johnson 100 Series, the Norton Rixson 1 Series Checkmate, the Sargent 690, and the ABH 1000 Series.
4) What is the closest equivalent to a DORMA 713S concealed stop only from another manufacturer?
For a concealed overhead stop with no hold-open, the Norton Rixson 1 Series Checkmate is a concealed door stop and holder built to heavy duty and Grade 1, and the Sargent 1530 is a standard duty concealed mount stop/holder with a 110 degree opening. The DORMA 713S is a standard duty concealed mount unit in the 700 Series, and its S function limits the swing with a cushioned stop and no hold-open, so if you order the Rixson 1 or Sargent 1530 you are ordering a unit whose stated function includes holding as well.
5) I need a concealed overhead stop that is rated for heavy traffic, not standard duty. What should I use instead of the 713S?
The 713S is a standard duty unit in the DORMA 700 Series. Where the opening sees heavier use, the Glynn-Johnson 100 Series is a heavy duty concealed overhead holder and stop that is multi-function and non-handed, the Sargent 690 is a heavy duty overhead concealed stop/holder in the 590 Series carrying ANSI Grade 1, and the ABH 1000 Series is a heavy duty concealed mount overhead door stop with a fire rating. All three mount concealed in the door and frame the same way the 713S does.
6) What looks like a substitute for the 713S but mounts differently?
Several overhead stops that come up alongside it are surface applied, not concealed. The Glynn-Johnson 70 Series is a heavy duty surface overhead holder and stop with an 85 to 110 degree hold-open range, the Glynn-Johnson 79 Series is an extra heavy duty surface overhead holder and stop, and the Norton Rixson 10 Series Checkmate units, including the 10-236 and the 10-346, are surface mount stops and holders. The DORMA 713S is a concealed mount unit, so the track sits in a mortise in the door rather than on the face of it, and swapping to a surface unit changes the prep entirely.
7) For a labeled fire door, which overhead stops are appropriate alternatives?
Stop only units such as the DORMA 713S are the choice on labeled fire doors, since hold open is prohibited there. The ABH 1000 Series is a heavy duty concealed mount overhead door stop with a fire rating, which makes it the concealed alternative to look at when the opening is labeled. Units described as stop and holder, such as the ABH 1000A Series or the Glynn-Johnson 410 Series, bring a hold-open function that a labeled door will not permit unless it is released by the fire alarm system.
8) Is a concealed overhead stop better than a wall stop or floor stop for a commercial door?
Overhead stops earn their place where a wall or floor stop cannot go: glass fronts, doors that swing into a corridor, wall surfaces you cannot drill, floors that have to stay clear. The 713S mounts concealed, so the mechanism sits in the door and frame rather than hanging on the face. If you have solid backing behind the door and no obstruction, a wall stop is the cheaper fix. If you do not, this is the method that limits swing without cluttering the floor.
9) What finishes does the DORMA 713S overhead stop come in?
Fifteen finishes, so matching an existing opening is usually straightforward: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 618 bright nickel, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 689 aluminum painted, 690 dark bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 black painted, 695 dark bronze and 696 satin brass. The painted finishes (689, 690, 693) are the two-coat paint DORMA uses to match its sprayed door closers; the rest are plated.
10) Can I add hold open to a DORMA 713S later if the tenant wants the door propped?
Not on an S unit. Stop only has no hold open mechanism to switch on. The field adjustable hold open is a feature of the H stop/hold unit, where a slot screw on the track channel face turns it on and off. If there is any chance the opening needs hold open later and the door is not labeled, order the H function up front rather than swapping the unit out.
11) Do I still need a door closer if I install a DORMA 713S?
Yes. A stop does not close the door, it only limits how far it swings and cushions the arrival. The 700 Series is built as a companion to a closer, not a replacement, which is why the paint finish is matched to sprayed DORMA closers. If the opening needs to self close, spec a closer alongside it.
12) What is the difference between the DORMA 713S and an overhead stop with adjustable opening control?
The 713S S function gives a fixed cushioned stop that limits the degree of swing. The ABH 1000SA and 1000RA Series are concealed mount stop and holder units with adjustable opening control, the ABH 1000A adds field-adjustable opening control, and the Norton Rixson 10-336 is a standard duty overhead stop with adjustable opening control. Adjustable units let the stop point be set in the field; the DORMA 700 Series answer to field adjustment is the F function, a cushioned limiting stop with an adjustable friction stay set by a screw on top of the slide shoe.
13) Is the DORMA 713S rated for residential use or commercial only?
Commercial. The 700 Series stops and holders are a commercial door control line, meant to run alongside DORMA closers as part of one door control package on the opening.
