The FHP is the complete friction hold open arm assembly for Dorma 8000 and 7000 Series surface closers, shipped as a Tri-Pack with the PHB bracket included. It covers reveals from 0 to 4 inches, so it handles both flush frames and deeply recessed openings without a separate drop plate order.
2) Do I have to order a left hand or right hand friction hold open arm for a Dorma closer?
Handing is not a factor. The friction hold open arm is non-handed, so one part number covers both swings and you can stock a single arm for doors that swing either way.
3) My Dorma closer arm is broken. Can I replace just the arm instead of the whole closer?
Yes. The FHP is sold as a replacement part for Dorma 8000 and 7000 Series closers, so a failed or seized arm can be swapped without pulling the closer body off the door. The Tri-Pack ships complete with the PHB bracket, which is what you need if the original bracket is also damaged or if the reveal changed when the frame was reworked.

A regular arm lets the door close from any position. The friction hold open arm adds adjustable friction in the arm itself so the door stays put once pushed past about 90 degrees, up to 180. Use it where staff need a door propped for deliveries or moving carts. Note it holds by friction, not by a mechanical stop, so it is not the arm to specify on a fire door that must be free to close.
