The Dorma DS door saver arm is a heavy-duty parallel arm with a built-in cushioned opening stop. Instead of letting the door swing into a wall or backcheck hard against the closer, the arm absorbs the opening force at the end of travel. It's the arm you specify when there is no wall stop or floor stop protecting the opening.
2) How far will a door open with the Dorma DS door saver arm installed?
Maximum opening is 110 degrees, conditions permitting. The arm can be set up to stop, or stop and hold open, at 85, 90, 100, or 110 degrees. On the DS non-hold-open version you're setting a stop point only. Adjacent walls, projecting trim, or push-side obstructions can reduce the usable angle below 110.
3) Is the Dorma DS-689 a parallel arm or a regular arm mount?
Parallel arm. It mounts on the push side of the door with the arm running parallel to the door face. If your closer is set up for regular (pull side) arm mounting, this is not the part for that opening.
4) Do I still need a separate wall stop if I use the Dorma door saver arm?
The cushioned opening function in the arm is what limits and absorbs the swing, so the arm itself acts as the stop at your chosen setting of 85, 90, 100, or 110 degrees. That's the reason property managers use it on openings where drywall or glass makes a wall stop impossible. If a floor or wall stop is already in place, set the arm to match its angle so the two aren't fighting each other.
