1) Which Dorma RTS closers does the 8831 side load arm fit?
The Dorma 8831 side load top arm is built for the RTS overhead concealed closer line, specifically RTS01, RTS02 and RTS03 bodies. If the closer in the floor or header is one of those three, this is the matching complete arm assembly.
2) How much top rail depth do I need on the door for a Dorma 8831 closer arm?
You need at least a 1/2 inch top rail channel depth. That is the minimum the 8831 arm requires to seat, so it works on narrow-rail aluminum storefront doors as well as steel doors. If your door top rail gives you less than 1/2 inch of channel depth, this arm is the wrong choice.
3) What is a side load closer arm and when do I use one instead of another arm type?
A side load arm transfers the closer's force through the side of the top rail channel rather than through an end-load pocket, which is what lets it work on doors with as little as 1/2 inch of top rail channel depth. Use the 8831 when the aluminum or steel door you are hanging has a shallow top rail and the closer is an RTS concealed unit. Doors prepped for an end-load arm take a different arm.
4) Is the Dorma 8831 a complete arm or just the top arm link?
It ships as a complete arm assembly, not a single link or bushing. That is what you order when the existing arm on an RTS closer is bent, worn at the pivot, or missing after a door swap.

If the closer body still holds fluid and controls speed, a worn or bent top arm is often the whole problem. The 8831 is sold as a standalone replacement arm for RTS01, RTS02 and RTS03 closers, so you can swap the arm without pulling the closer body out of the header or floor.
