1) How do I know whether to order the 7/8 inch or the 1-9/16 inch Dorma floor pivot for my door?
Measure the channel depth in the bottom rail of the door. The Dorma 8852 adjustable end load floor pivot is sold in two versions matched to that channel: 7/8 inch and 1-9/16 inch. It is not a universal part, so a 1-9/16 inch pivot will not seat correctly in a 7/8 inch channel. Pull the door or check the rail manufacturer's section detail before ordering.
2) Will the Dorma 8852 floor pivot work with an RTS series overhead closer?
That is exactly what it is built for. The 8852 end load floor pivot is the bottom pivot for doors hung on Dorma RTS series overhead concealed closers, where the closer carries the door at the head and the floor pivot takes the load and the alignment at the bottom.
