1) Do I have to order the RTS10 closer handed for a left or right swing?
No handing to specify. The RTS10 is non-handed and works single acting or double acting, so one part number covers either swing direction and both in-and-out openings.
2) Which spring size should I pick for a 3'-0" exterior aluminum entrance?
SZ3 is the standard closing force covering 2'-6" to 3'-0" exterior doors and 3'-0" to 3'-6" interior. Go SZ4 for the strongest force, 3'-0" to 3'-6" exterior or 3'-6" to 4'-0" interior. 5) My door is offset hung, not center hung. What concealed closer should I use instead of the RTS10?
The RTS10 is a center hung end load unit for aluminum doors and frames, so it will not suit an offset pivot opening. For offset hung aluminum doors, use the Norton Rixson 0608 Series, an offset hung overhead concealed closer for aluminum doors up to 200 lbs. Confirm the door leaf weight is within 200 lbs before specifying it.
6) What is the closest equivalent to the Dorma RTS10 overhead concealed closer from another manufacturer?
The Norton Rixson 73 Series is the nearest match. Like the RTS10, it is a center hung overhead concealed closer rated for 250 lb doors and it is a double acting unit supplied with a cover plate. The 73 Series is a heavy duty Grade 1 closer. The RTS10 handles single or double acting aluminum door and frame openings, is non-handed, and is rated to 250 lbs.
7) I need close to 180 degrees of swing. Is the RTS10 the right closer?
The RTS10 is built around a 90 or 105 degree cushion, so the cushioning stop is set at one of those two angles. If the opening has to swing out to roughly 180 degrees, look at the Sargent 269, a heavy duty Grade 1 overhead concealed closer with 180 degree opening capability.
8) Can I use a CRL Jackson concealed closer body as a drop-in replacement for a Dorma RTS10?

The CRL Jackson concealed closers such as the 20-101M-01 and 20-101M-03 are sold as closer body only, in regular duty, and they are fixed to one cushion angle per part number - the -01 is 105 degree no hold-open and the -03 is 90 degree no hold-open. The RTS10 package is configured for aluminum door and frame applications. For heavier commercial hollow metal work the Sargent 268 is an overhead concealed closer with a cast iron body, heavy duty and Grade 1, and the Sargent 278 is a Grade 1 heavy duty concealed unit with an exposed arm where the arm can be surface visible. Both are a different install family from the RTS10 center hung end load package.
14) I need a barrier free low opening force closer. Does the RTS10 cover that, or do I need a different model?
The RTS10 covers it directly. Spring size BFI is barrier free light opening force for interior doors at 3 ft door width and BFE is the barrier free light opening force version for exterior doors at 3 ft, with SZ2 also offered as a light opening force spring.
