1) How heavy a door will the Dorma RTS12 concealed closer handle?
The RTS12 is rated for doors up to 250 lbs. That covers most aluminum entrance leaves and heavier glass or hollow metal doors. If your leaf is lighter and around 200 lbs, the Norton Rixson 608 Series center hung concealed closer is another center hung option we carry.
2) Is the RTS12 handed, or can one unit work on either a left or right hand door?
Non-handed. One RTS12 works on a left or right swinging leaf, and it handles single acting or double acting doors, so you can stock one unit for a range of openings instead of keeping both hands on the shelf.
3) Will the RTS12 fit a center hung aluminum storefront door?
That is exactly the configuration it is built for: center hung, end load, for aluminum door and frame applications. End load means the closer body drops into the header from the end of the frame, so the header has to be accessible. 4) Which spring size should I order for a 3'-0" exterior aluminum entrance?
For a 2'-6" to 3'-0" exterior door, SZ3 is the standard closing force. Go to SZ4 for 3'-0" to 3'-6" exterior or 3'-6" to 4'-0" interior leaves. If you need reduced opening force, BFE is the barrier free spring for exterior doors at 3'-0" width and BFI is the barrier free spring for interior doors at that width; SZ2 is also a light opening force option.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering an RTS12 besides the finish?
Four choices decide the part: spring size (BFE, BFI, SZ2, SZ3 or SZ4), cushion stop at 90 or 105 degrees, hold open or no hold open, and the package option (standard, with the 8563 frame cover plate, or with a 5mm extended spindle). 9) Can I use a concealed closer instead of a surface closer on a door that keeps getting vandalized?
