1) Which Dorma exit devices does the YR08C lever trim fit?
The YR08C escutcheon lever trim mounts to Dorma 9100, F9100, 9300, F9300, 9400 and F9400 series panic devices, covering rim, surface vertical rod and concealed vertical rod versions. The F-prefix numbers are the fire rated devices in those families, so the same trim serves both fire and non-fire openings in a building.
2) What does the 08 clutch classroom function actually do on the door?
Entrance is by the lever, and the key locks or unlocks that lever from the outside. Turn the key to lock and the outside lever goes free-spinning, so pulling on it does nothing and entry is by key or from the push bar inside. Unlock it and the lever retracts the latch for normal traffic. That is ANSI function 08, the standard classroom arrangement where staff controls the opening with a key rather than a thumbturn.
3) Does the YR08C trim come with a cylinder, or do I supply my own?
A 90X10SC118 mortise cylinder in Schlage C keyway ships with the trim as standard. If you key your own building, the keying options include keyed different, keyed alike across multiple locks, or a less-cylinder order so you can install your existing conventional Schlage C cylinder instead.
4) Do I need to specify handing when ordering this Dorma lever trim?
Yes, handing is an order choice. The YR08C is built left hand or right hand, so determine the swing of the door before you order. Pick the wrong hand and the R lever points the wrong way on the escutcheon.
5) Will the YR08C escutcheon cover the holes left by my old exit device trim?
The escutcheon base measures 8-1/2 x 2-3/4 inches with a 3-1/2 inch projection. That is a wide stile plate, so it needs stile width to land on and will cover a prep within that footprint. Measure your existing escutcheon and the stile face before ordering: anything wider than 2-3/4 inches of exposed prep will still show.
6) Is this trim tough enough for a school or high traffic entry?
It is built for that duty. The escutcheon is heavy-duty and vandal resistant, and stainless steel is the standard material for corrosion resistance. Combined with the clutch mechanism, forcing a locked outside lever spins it rather than breaking the trim off, which is why clutch classroom trim gets specified on school and campus exterior doors.
7) Can I key several YR08C trims to one key for a building?
Yes. Keyed alike is an ordering option when you want multiple doors on one key, and keyed different is the standard if each opening needs its own. There is also a field for special cylinder or keying requirements if the trims have to work into an existing master key system on a conventional Schlage C keyway.
8) Is the YR08C a lock by itself or does it need an exit device?
It is outside trim only, not a standalone lock. The YR08C provides the lever, escutcheon and cylinder that operate a Dorma 9100, 9300 or 9400 series panic device already mounted on the door. There is no latch in the trim itself, so if the door has no exit device on it, you need the device as well.
