Dormakaba YR09-613 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Dorma exit devices does the YR09 lever trim fit?
The Dorma YR09 escutcheon lever trim mounts to the 9100, F9100, 9300, F9300, 9400 and F9400 exit devices. That covers rim, surface vertical rod and concealed vertical rod devices in those series, including the fire rated F versions. It will not mount to another manufacturer's device.
2) How does nightlatch function work on the Dorma YR09 trim?
Nightlatch means the outside lever is always free-spinning until a key is turned. Entrance by lever only when released by key, and the key can only be removed when the trim is locked again. The push bar inside always gives free egress. If you want the lever locked or unlocked by key and left that way without a key hanging in it, you want a classroom or storeroom trim instead.
3) What keyway and cylinder does the Dorma YR09 exit trim take?
A conventional mortise cylinder in Schlage C keyway. If your building is already keyed to Schlage C, this drops into the existing system. Keying is selected when you order: keyed different, keyed alike across multiple openings, or no cylinder at all if you are supplying your own or using an interchangeable core from your own stock.
4) I need the lever to stay unlocked during business hours. Is the YR09 the right trim?
No. On the YR09 the lever only releases while the key is turned, and the key comes out only when it is locked, so it cannot be left unlocked for the day. For a trim you can key to a locked or unlocked state, look at storeroom or classroom function trims such as the Marks USA M195F storeroom trim or the Falcon 510L classroom trim, matched to your device series.
5) I have narrow stile aluminum doors. Will the Dorma YR09 escutcheon fit?
The YR09 is a wide stile exit device trim with a raised escutcheon plate measuring 8-1/2 inches by 2-3/4 inches, which needs the stile width to take it. On narrow stile aluminum doors, BEST's narrow stile trims are the fit: the 2901 narrow stile exit only lever trim and the 2001 narrow stile exit only pull trim with cover plate, both for 2000 Series exit devices. Note those are exit only, so they do not provide the keyed lever entry the YR09 gives.
6) Can I use the Dorma YR09 if the outside lever has to unlock and relock electrically from an access control system?
No. The Dorma YR09 is a mechanical nightlatch trim keyed to a conventional Schlage C keyway cylinder; the lever is released by key, not by a credential. For access control you want electrified exit trim: Command Access offers the ET15, ET25 and ET26 electrified exit trims with 12V/24V operation and fail safe/fail secure options, the ET26 with Grade 1 construction and a field reversible design. Falcon's 510L-FSA/FSE is a heavy duty electrified lever trim for 25 Series devices, and Von Duprin's E360L-BE-03 is a Grade 1 electric passage trim with the 03 lever, fail safe, for 33/35A Series devices. Each is tied to its own device family, so match the trim to the device on the door.
7) What is the closest equivalent to the Dorma YR09 nightlatch lever trim from another manufacturer?
The Dorma YR09 is a nightlatch lever trim where entrance is by lever only when released by key, with the key removable only when locked. The nearest like-for-like alternatives are the Sargent 704ET night latch lever exit device trim with field reversible operation and the Sargent 704-ETL nightlatch lever trim with key retract function, both Grade 1 heavy duty night latch trims. Corbin Russwin also builds the VT957ET nightlatch escutcheon trim in stamped or formed stainless steel. The determining factor is the device family: the YR09 is built for Dorma 9100, F9100, 9300, F9300, 9400 and F9400 devices, the Sargent 704ET for 700 Series applications and the VT957ET for ED5000 Series devices, so the trim has to match the exit device already on the door.
8) I need the lever to stay locked at all times and be released only by key, not free-wheeling entry. Is the Dorma YR09 right, or should I use a storeroom trim?
The Dorma YR09 is nightlatch: entrance by lever only when released by key, and the key is removable only when locked, so the lever is dead until the key is turned. If you instead want a key-retract-latch trim on a surface vertical rod or mortise device, Sargent's 744 is a Grade 1 night latch trim with freewheeling trim for 8700 and 8900 Series devices. If what you actually want is a storeroom trim where the key stays with the cylinder and the lever is always locked from outside, look at the Design Hardware KIL storeroom function exit trim with Schlage C keyway or the Tell EDELT80 escutcheon lever trim in storeroom function.
9) How much does the YR09 escutcheon trim stick out from the door, and how wide is the plate?
The Y escutcheon plate base measures 8-1/2 by 2-3/4 inches with a 3-1/2 inch projection off the face of the door. Check that projection against any wall, adjacent door leaf or gate the door swings toward, and check the 2-3/4 inch plate dimension against your stile before ordering.
10) What is a good nightlatch lever trim alternative to the Dorma YR09 for a different brand of exit device?
Trim is device-specific, so match the alternative to your device. Sargent 704ET and 704-ETL are heavy duty Grade 1 nightlatch lever trims with key retract for Sargent 700 and PE Series devices, and Sargent 744 covers the 8700/8900 surface vertical rod and mortise devices. On Corbin Russwin ED5000 Series, the VT957ET is the nightlatch escutcheon trim. For Von Duprin 22, 55 and 98/99 devices the 110MD-NL is the nightlatch cylinder assembly rather than a lever.
11) Do I need to order a cylinder separately for the Dorma YR09 trim?
Not unless you want to. Keying is a required selection: pick KD keyed different or KA keyed alike and a Schlage C mortise cylinder comes with it. Pick the less-cylinder option if your locksmith is supplying cores to match an existing system. There is also a free text field for special keying instructions, such as a specific bitting or master key system.
12) Is the Dorma YR09 escutcheon tough enough for a school or apartment exterior door?
It is built as a heavy-duty, vandal-resistant escutcheon in stainless steel, which is the reason it gets specified on high-traffic exterior openings. It fits the fire rated F9100, F9300 and F9400 devices as well as the standard ones, so you can standardize the same trim across rated and non-rated openings in a building.
13) What is a simpler outside trim if I do not need a lever on the Dorma 9000 Series door?
The Dorma YR09 carries an R lever on a raised escutcheon with a mortise cylinder for keyed nightlatch entry. Where the outside only needs a grab-and-pull with key retraction, a pull trim covers it: the Design Hardware 2P-03NL pull trim with cylinder hole is a Grade 1 night latch pull, the Tell exit device pull trim comes with a cylinder hole less cylinder, and the Dexter ED1500T-PULL-NC is a nightlatch function trim with a raised lip pull plate. If the door is exit only with no outside access at all, the BEST 1700 Series wide stile exit only pull trim and the BEST 4900 Series wide stile exit only lever trim drop the cylinder entirely.
14) What looks like a substitute for the Dorma YR09 but will not give me keyed entry?
Several escutcheon lever trims resemble the YR09 but have no cylinder function behind the lever. The Falcon 212L is a blank escutcheon lever trim for 20 Series devices, the Von Duprin 230DT is dummy trim on a 10 gauge steel escutcheon, the Von Duprin 210K-BE is a knob with blank escutcheon, and the Detex 02BN is a dummy S-lever with blank escutcheon. Passage trims such as the Arrow SRX01 Sierra lever and the Corbin Russwin 3310AET also look similar but leave the outside always unlocked. The YR09 is a nightlatch: entrance by lever only when released by key, with the key removable only when locked.
15) The opening is a classroom door, not an after-hours entrance. Is the Dorma YR09 the right trim?
The YR09 is a nightlatch trim, so the lever is locked until a key releases it and the key comes out only in the locked position, which suits an after-hours or service entrance rather than a classroom. For classroom function, the Accentra 446F Grade 1 exit device trim with Augusta lever, the Falcon 510L heavy duty classroom trim for 24/25 Series devices, the Falcon 179L medium duty classroom trim for 1790 Series, and the Dexter ED1000T-CLRM-TP-NC Grade 1 classroom thumbpiece and pull plate trim are the classroom options. Pick by the exit device family already installed.
16) What nightlatch options exist if I do not want a lever on the outside of the door at all?
The Dorma YR09 pairs an R lever with a raised escutcheon on rim, surface vertical rod or concealed vertical rod devices. For nightlatch entry without a lever, the Von Duprin 110MD-NL is a Grade 1 heavy duty night latch cylinder assembly for metal and wood doors used with 22, 55 and 98/99 exit trim, and the Accentra 121NL is an exit device nightlatch trim. Both give key retraction of the latch without presenting a lever for someone to pull on.
17) How does the Dorma YR09 differ from the Accentra 441F Augusta night latch trim?
Both are keyed lever night latch trims for exit devices. The YR09 uses the rectangular R lever on a heavy-duty vandal-resistant raised escutcheon in stainless steel and is built for Dorma 9100, 9300 and 9400 family devices, offered in 605 bright brass, 630 satin stainless steel and 695 oil rubbed dark bronze. The Accentra AU-441F uses the Augusta lever design, and the related Accentra 426F Augusta escutcheon trim is built for Accentra 6000 and 1800 Series devices. Lever style and the device family each one mounts to are the practical differences.
18) Is there an alternative to the Dorma YR09 rated for a thinner or thicker door leaf?
The YR09 is a wide stile escutcheon trim with a 3-1/2 inch projection for Dorma 9100, 9300 and 9400 family devices, including their F-rated versions. If you are specifying by door thickness, the Pamex E9000 storeroom L3 lever heavy duty Grade 1 exit trim lists a 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch door thickness range, and Tell's EDELT53 entry function and EDELT80 storeroom function escutcheon lever trims list 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. Those are storeroom or keyed entry functions rather than the YR09's nightlatch operation.
