1) Will the Dormakaba QCI200 interconnected lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or does it need a 1-3/4?
Both work. The QCI200 covers a door range of 1-3/8 inch (35mm) through 1-3/4 inch (44.5mm), so it goes on older interior slabs and standard commercial doors alike without a thickness kit. That range is one of the reasons it shows up on multi-family retrofits where door thickness varies unit to unit.
2) What door prep does a QCI200 interconnected lockset need, and can I drop it into an existing 161 bore?
The QCI200 preps to a 2-1/8 inch (54mm) diameter cross bore with a 1 inch diameter edge bore for the latch, and the two bodies sit 4 inches center to center. A door already bored 2-1/8 inch for a standard cylindrical lever takes the lever half, but the deadbolt half needs its own 2-1/8 inch bore drilled 4 inches above, on center, plus the second edge bore. 3) Will the QCI200 latch into the strikes already in my frames?
The lever latch throws 1/2 inch (13mm) and ships with a T strike measuring 1-1/8 inch x 2-3/4 inch; the deadbolt strike is the same 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 footprint. If your frames are prepped for a standard 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 ANSI lip strike you are lined up. Frames cut for a full 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike will need a filler or a different strike option, which Dormakaba offers on the QCI200.
4) What is the difference between single-locking and double-locking on a Dormakaba QCI200?
Single-locking pairs a passage lever with the keyed deadbolt: the lever always turns freely, and all the security is in the bolt. Double-locking gives you an entry lever that locks independently plus the deadbolt, so the door can be secured on the lever alone with the bolt thrown separately. A third build swaps in a lock/unlock deadbolt status indicator on the passage lever version, which is what most assisted living and multi-family specs want so staff can read the door without touching it. All three retract lever and deadbolt in one motion from the inside.
5) Does an interconnected lock like the QCI200 satisfy single motion egress instead of a mortise lock?
That is exactly what it is for. One turn of the inside lever pulls the latch and the deadbolt together, which is what egress codes are after, and the ADA thumb turn keeps the inside operation compliant with ANSI A117.1.
