Dormakaba 79PS11221EL32626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Ilco 79 Series RFID mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch wood door and a 2 inch commercial door?
Both work. The 79 Series RFID mortise lockset covers doors from 1-3/8 inches to 2-1/2 inches (35mm to 66mm), so it spans older interior wood doors through heavy commercial slabs without a separate part number for thickness. Backset is 2-3/4 inches (70mm) on the mortise case.
2) Can the Dormakaba 79PS11221EL RFID lockset be used on a fire rated door?
Yes. The 79 Series electronic mortise lock is UL Listed for fire doors up to a three hour rating, evaluated to UL 10B and UL 10C, and also certified to CAN/ULC-S104. The listing covers both pre-prepared manufactured fire doors and retrofit onto existing doors, which matters if you are upgrading corridor or stair doors that already carry a label.
3) Is this the version with a deadbolt, and what does the 1-1/4 inch ASM designation mean on the order?
This particular 79 Series build is the no-deadbolt configuration with a 1-1/4 inch ANSI lock front. The deadbolt versions in the family use a 1 inch (25mm) solid metal deadbolt thrown by the inside thumbturn and retracted with the latch by the interior handle, emergency override, or specific staff keycards, with an optional auto deadbolt. If the opening needs positive deadbolting for a dwelling unit, order a deadbolt version instead of this one. Lock fronts come in 1-1/4 inch or 1 inch.
4) Is the handing on this Ilco 79 mortise lock field reversible, or do I have to order left and right hand separately?
Handing is field reversible on the lever and mortise case, so a left hand or right hand reverse opening is handled on site rather than by ordering two part numbers. The one exception in the family is the 1 inch mortise, which is not field reversible. Locks ship factory handed left or right.
5) What keycards work with the Ilco 79 RFID lock, and can I keep the credentials I already issue?
The reader takes RFID cards or tags meeting ISO 14443, including MIFARE Classic (4 byte NUID), MIFARE Plus, and Ultralight C. If your existing credential stock is one of those, it carries over. Locks run on web based RezShield software, and this build is Bluetooth Low Energy for mobile key use.
6) What happens if the batteries die or the electronics fail on this RFID lockset?
Three AA alkaline batteries give up to 120,000 openings or about three years at 10 openings per day, and a low battery indicator warns staff before they run out. There is a built in battery voltage meter for diagnostics. A concealed key override is available as an option, using an Ilco KIK core (keyed alike, master keyed, or recodable) or a Best small format IC adaptor, so a mechanical key path can be specified if your maintenance team wants one.
7) Does the Ilco 79 Series meet Grade 1 and ADA for a multifamily or institutional spec?
It is certified compliant with Grade 1 performance tests under ANSI/BHMA A156.13-2005 for mortise locks and latches and ANSI/BHMA A156.25-2007 for electrified locking devices. Levers are ADA compliant; the thumbturn is compliant with an optional adapter, so specify that adapter if the opening has to meet accessibility on the inside trim. Unlock time is 4 seconds standard and can be set to 15 seconds for accessibility.
8) Will this replace the mechanical mortise locks currently on my apartment doors?
That is what the 79 Series is built for. It replaces existing mechanical or electronic door locks, and it is UL certified for retrofitting onto existing fire doors as well as factory prepped ones. The wide 1-3/8 to 2-1/2 inch door thickness range and the standard 2-3/4 inch mortise backset cover most existing commercial mortise prep. Housings are cast zinc alloy on the outside with levers and thumbturn, stainless steel inside.
9) Does the long lever option leave enough knuckle clearance on a door with a stop or narrow trim?
The long lever gives 3/8 inch (9.5mm) from the end of the lever to the door face, which is the tightest of the three lever choices. Short lever gives 2 inches (51mm) and the Elevon and Gala levers give 2 inches (58mm). If you need hand room over a heavy stop or a push plate, choose a short or Elevon lever instead of the long. All levers are ADA compliant, and the outside lever spins free up and down in locked mode so a forced pull does not damage the mechanism.
10) BLE ready or BLE enabled on the Dormakaba 79 Series, which one do I need to order?
Two different things. BLE ready means the lock can be upgraded to BLE enabled later when that becomes available. BLE enabled ships with the end cap containing the BLE module already installed, so no further upgrade work is needed. If you want mobile key from day one and no second trip per door, order BLE enabled.
11) Can I put this electronic lock on an exterior entry door in Florida, and how cold can it get?
Florida Building Code approved in the exterior door components category under approval FL13061. Operating range is -31F to 151F (-35C to 66C) with 0 to 85 percent non condensing humidity at 86F, so unheated stairwells, vestibules, and exterior unit doors are within range.
12) Should I use a mortise version of the Ilco 79 lock or the cylindrical version?
The mortise version uses an ANSI lock case with a 1-1/4 inch or 1 inch front and a 2-3/4 inch backset, and it is the one to use where the door is already mortise prepped or where a deadbolt option is wanted. The cylindrical version of the 79 Series uses a cylindrical latch in either 2-3/8 inch or 2-1/4... correction not applicable; the cylindrical latch is offered in 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset, which suits standard bored door prep. There is also an exit trim version for pairing with rim exit hardware on egress doors.
13) How do property staff pull an audit trail and manage access on the 79 Series RFID lock?
The lock stores the last 400 transactions internally. Programming and audit downloads happen with a 4K audit keycard or a Kaba M-Unit handheld, so no wiring back to a panel is required. Keycards can be pre-registered up to 10 days ahead, expiry runs from one hour to seven years depending on type and setup, and passage and lockout modes are both set by authorized keycard. A real time date and hour/minute stamp is applied to events, and privacy override defaults to the emergency keycard only.
14) What finish does 626 mean on this Dormakaba lockset and what else is offered?
626 is satin chrome. The 79 Series standard finishes are satin chrome and satin brass, so if you are matching existing hardware across a building those are the two to work from.
