1) Which exit devices does the Dormakaba RT Plus RFID panic trim mount to?
The RT Plus proximity panic trim is built to match a specific device, and you pick it when you order. Covered devices are the Arrow S3888, Detex 10 and FL10, Dorma F9300/9300, Von Duprin 98/99 and EO-F, and the Yale 7100-36. It fits rim, surface vertical rod, and concealed vertical rod devices. If your existing device is not one of those, this trim is not the one for that opening.
2) Do I have to specify handing for the RT Plus proximity trim?
Handing matters. The trim is ordered left hand reverse, right hand reverse, or dual handed. Exit devices are always reverse bevel, so LHR and RHR are the two real openings; the dual handed option is what you buy when you are stocking for a property and do not want two part numbers on the shelf. Get it wrong on a single-hand version and the lever points the wrong way.
3) Does the RT Plus RFID trim have a key cylinder, and how does it lock?
No cylinder. Entry is by lever with credential control, and the trim is always active, meaning the lever always retracts the latch from the outside once access is granted rather than being locked off. Override is electronic rather than mechanical key, so plan your lockout procedure around credentials and the maintenance unit, not a bitted key.
4) What else do I need to buy to actually run Dormakaba RT Plus locks on a property?
The trim alone will not run a site. Dormakaba lists Community access control management software, the Messenger unit for online capability, a dormakaba RFID encoder, a dormakaba maintenance unit, credentials, and a mobile access solution program as what a full RT Plus installation needs. Budget the head end and the encoder on the first door, not the fiftieth.
5) Will the RT Plus trim work with the 2-3/4 inch backset prep already in my doors?
Backset is 2-3/4 inches, which is the standard commercial backset and the one most existing exit device preps already use. If your doors were bored for 2-3/8 inch residential backset, this is not a drop-in.
6) Can I put electronic access on my existing panic bars without replacing the exit devices?
That is exactly what this trim is for. Rather than swapping out a whole exit device for an electrified one, you replace the outside trim on the device you already have with the RT Plus RFID trim, keeping the Von Duprin 98/99, Dorma 9300, Detex 10, Arrow S3888, or Yale 7100-36 bar in place. Dormakaba states it easily replaces existing mechanical or electronic door locks. The push bar side of egress does not change.
7) What credentials and phone access work with the RT Plus panic trim?
RFID credentials are Mifare Classic and Mifare Plus. Every version of this trim is BLE enabled, so phone-based access through a dormakaba mobile access solution program is on the table without a hardware change later. Programming is done at the door over NFC.
8) Is the RT Plus trim standalone or does it need to be wired to a panel?
Standalone. It runs on batteries at the door with no wiring back to a panel, and Dormakaba rates the batteries at up to 3 years with a low battery indicator. Programming and audit records sit in non-volatile memory, so a battery swap does not wipe the door. Add Messenger only if you want the door online for real-time reporting.
9) Can I get door ajar alarms and see who opened the door with RT Plus?
Both, with a caveat. RFID key audits give you staff monitoring and a record of who presented a credential at that door. Door ajar reporting comes from the tracking mortise, but it only reports when you are running the Messenger option, so a purely offline install gets audits on the lock and no live ajar alerts.
10) What finishes and lever styles does the Dormakaba RT Plus panic trim come in?
Two finishes on this trim, 606 satin brass and 626 satin chrome, with four lever designs: Elevon, Gala, Long, and Short. The levers are ADA compliant, which matters on a multifamily or institutional egress door where the lever has to be operable without tight grasping. Broader RT Plus finish ranges like oil-rubbed bronze belong to other configurations of the platform, not this trim.
11) Is the Dormakaba RT Plus certified for use on a fire-rated egress opening?
RT Plus products are BHMA and UL certified per Dormakaba. The trim is tamperproof in construction and built for small to very large multihousing properties, which is the traffic level it is engineered around. For a specific fire door assembly, match the certification listing to the exit device the trim is mounting to, since the device carries the egress rating.
