1) Will the Saffire LX-P trim work on my Dorma 9300 rim exit device?
That's exactly what it's built for. The Saffire LX-P panic trim is designed for the Dorma 9300 rim exit device in its non-UL fire-rated configuration, and every orderable combination is set up for that device. If the opening in question has a fire-rated 9300, this is not the trim for it. It also is not a standalone lock, it replaces the outside trim on the 9300 and the exit device itself still does the latching.
2) What door thickness does the Saffire LX-P panic trim fit?
Two thickness builds cover 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors. Option 1 handles 1-3/4 to 2 inches, which covers the standard commercial 1-3/4 inch door, and Option 2 handles 2 to 2-1/4 inches for heavier leaves. You pick the option that matches the leaf, so measure the door before ordering rather than assuming. It is not for wood doors.
3) Do I have to order the Saffire LX-P panic trim handed, or can one part cover both left and right doors?
Both routes are open. The trim is handed but field reversible, and it is ordered three ways: L for left hand, R for right hand, or F for dual handing. Property managers stocking spares across a building usually take F so one part covers either swing. If you already know the swing, order L or R and set it at the door.
4) What credentials does the Saffire LX-P proximity trim read?
Mifare 13.56 MHz credentials in three formats: Mifare classic, Mifare plus, or Mifare Ultralight C. On Mifare classic you run resident keys (mini) and staff keys in 4k and 1k. On Mifare plus, residents get Mifare plus 2K and staff get Mifare plus S 2k or S 4k. The format is chosen for the property, so a site standardizing across buildings should pick one and stay on it. The trim is also BLE enabled and runs with dormakaba mobile access, so a phone can be issued in place of a card.
5) Does the Saffire LX-P need to be wired to power or a panel?
No wiring. It runs standalone on three AA batteries, rated up to two years, with a low battery indicator so maintenance can swap them before anyone gets locked out. There is also a concealed key override and an electronic battery backup for a dead-cell situation. That makes it a retrofit for exterior stair and amenity doors where pulling cable to the opening isn't practical.
6) Is a proximity panic trim or a keyed lever trim the better choice for a multi-family exit door?
Go electronic when the door serves a changing population. A keyed trim means rekeying or re-issuing cut keys every time a resident or vendor turns over. The Saffire LX-P cancels a prior credential automatically the first time a new one is presented at the lock, so there is no touring the building to reprogram. It also carries user-defined key levels and groups, so residents, leasing, maintenance, services and vendors each get their own access set. A mechanical trim is still the simpler answer on a door nobody's access ever changes.
7) Can I pull an audit trail off the Saffire LX-P, and what do I need to do it?
The lock stores its most recent 4,000 events, date and time stamped in real time with automatic daylight savings adjustment. You read them with a handheld unit using an NFC interface, which also handles programming and on-screen diagnostics. Property-wide management from off site runs through dormakaba's Community access management software, which is sold separately from the trim. Budget for the handheld and the software when you are speccing a building, not just the door hardware.
8) What lever styles and finishes does the Saffire LX-P panic trim come in?
Three lever designs are orderable: Essen, Von (modified elevon) and Long Return, the Troy lever extended for California code. Orderable finishes are satin chrome, satin nickel and black, and every one of the three levers is available in all three of those finishes and in left, right or dual handing. The brochure also lists ocean front, oil-rubbed bronze and bright chrome, plus polycarbonate in black, gray and white, and custom levers can be arranged through a sales rep.
9) Is the Saffire LX-P rated for a high-traffic commercial opening?
Its locking is ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, the top grade in the standard and what an institutional or MRO spec normally calls for on an exterior or high-cycle door. It is a commercial product, and it is not suited to wood doors, so keep it on hollow metal and aluminum openings running the Dorma 9300 rim device.
10) Can I lock out residents on a Saffire LX-P door during an emergency or a turnover?
Yes, lockout mode is set at the door by an authorized key, so staff can shut a credential group out of an opening without pulling the trim or reprogramming from the office. LED indicators give the feedback at the reader so the person presenting a card knows whether they were read and denied.
