1) Will the Dormakaba Saffire LX-L RFID lock fit a 2 inch thick door?
Yes. The Saffire LX-L cylindrical lock covers doors from 1-3/8 to 2-1/2 inches, so a 2 inch door is well inside the range. That span is wider than most electronic cylindrical locks handle, which matters on older multifamily stock where unit doors are 1-3/8 and stair or perimeter doors are heavier.
2) Does the Saffire LX-L storeroom lock have a thumbturn for privacy?
No. The storeroom function has no thumbturn and no privacy, so the outside lever stays locked at all times and is released only by a valid credential. The inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. If you need a resident to be able to lock out their own door from inside, storeroom is the wrong function for that opening.
3) Can I use the Saffire LX-L on a fire rated door?
Up to and including a 20 minute rating. The lock is UL 10C and ULC S-104 listed on fire doors to 20 minutes, with 90 minutes pending. For a 60 or 90 minute rated stair or corridor door, this is not the lock to spec today.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Saffire LX-L?
Yes, handing is a required choice: left hand or right hand. Stand outside the door on the key side; if the hinges are on your left it is left hand, hinges on your right is right hand. The lever design is a separate decision, with Essen, Von (modified elevon), and a long return Troy lever extended for California.
5) What else do I need to buy to run Dormakaba Saffire LX-L locks in my building?
The lock is managed by dormakaba Community access management software, which is sold separately, plus a handheld programming unit with an NFC interface for programming and pulling the audit trail. Mobile credentials are issued and authenticated through BlueSky, dormakaba's mobile access app. Budget for the software and the handheld on the first order, not the second. Batteries are 3 AA per lock.
6) Will residents be able to open the Saffire LX-L with a phone, or do I have to issue fobs?
Both. The LX-L reader is BLE enabled, so credentials can be issued as mobile keys through the BlueSky app or as fobs, wristbands and keycards on the RFID side.
