Yes. The Saflok SR Series reader is a credential reader, not a locking device, and it's built to control electrified access hardware such as electric strikes and magnetic locks at perimeter openings, elevators and parking entrances. You supply the locking device and its power; the reader handles the credential read and the release signal.
2) What credentials does the Saflok SR reader accept, and does it do phone unlock?
The SR reader is a contactless smart card reader that uses Mifare Classic or Mifare Plus credentials. Mobile access runs over Bluetooth Low Energy, and that is an ordering choice, not standard on every build: the secondary communication code is either A, BLE compatible, or C, BLE enabled. Order the C option if you want residents unlocking with a phone out of the box.
3) Can I mount a Saflok SR reader on a gate post or exterior wall in the weather?
Outdoor perimeter points are exactly what these readers are built for, including parking entrances and outdoor pool gates. The smart card reader is environmentally sealed against climate extremes and the housing is tamper resistant. For a post or a wall with no back box cavity, choose the surface mount configuration and one of the surface box controller options, plastic or metal.
4) Surface mount or flush mount SR reader, which one do I order?
Three mounting choices: surface mount (SR 1), flush mount (SR 2), and clear flush mount (SR 3). Surface mount goes on finished walls, gate posts, and elevator jambs where you can't cut in. Flush mount sits in the wall for a cleaner lobby look and needs a box behind it. Pick the SR Controller option to match: plastic or metal flush box for the recessed builds, plastic or metal surface box for the surface builds. Metal is the choice where tamper exposure or abuse is a concern.
5) Do Saflok SR readers need to be wired back to a panel, or can they run wireless?

With no primary, the reader runs standalone under Community Access Management software and audits are pulled locally.
6) Will the same resident card that opens the apartment door also open the pool gate with an SR reader?
The SR readers are managed by the same dormakaba Community Access Management software that runs the rest of the Saflok system, and they read Mifare Classic and Mifare Plus credentials, so one credential can carry both unit and common area access. Selectable master key access lets you set which masters the reader honors at each opening, so a maintenance master can be valid at the pool gate without being valid everywhere.
7) How big is the Saflok SR reader, and will it fit next to a narrow door frame?
The reader measures 3 inches height by 2 inches width by 1 inch depth. That 2 inch width clears most frame trim and mullion faces, but the 1 inch depth is the reader body only, so on flush mount you still need a wall cavity deep enough for the flush box behind it.
8) I already have the back box in the wall from a previous reader. Can I order the SR reader without a box?
Yes. One of the SR Controller options is no box and no faceplate, which is the one to order when the existing enclosure stays in the wall. There is also an unassembled reader kit option for the SR2 and SR3 flush builds, which ships the components for field assembly rather than a factory-built unit.

The SR readers have a programmable auto latch and unlatch feature, so a lobby, mailroom or amenity door can be scheduled to release for open hours and secure again after, with no one walking the building to throw a latch.
