DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders

Model 2865 Accessory, Armature Extension, 4”

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

Standard Features

DynaLock 2865 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the DynaLock 2865 for, and do I need one with my 2800 Series door holder?
The 2865 is a 4 inch armature extension rod for DynaLock 2800 Series electromagnetic door holders. You only need it when the wall or floor mounted electromagnet and the armature mounting point on the door are farther apart than the standard armature projection covers. If the door swings back flat against the magnet location, you don't need an extension. Measure the standoff gap between where the magnet mounts and where the armature lands on the door first, then order the extension length that closes it. It's an accessory sold separately from the holder itself.
2) Does the DynaLock 2865 come with the door holder, or is it ordered separately?
Separately. A 2800 Series door holder assembly ships with the electromagnet, the self-adjusting pivoting armature, and its mounting hardware, and extension rods are listed as an option on top of that. So the 2865 is a line item you add when the standoff distance on your opening calls for it, not something bundled with the holder.
3) Does adding a DynaLock 2865 extension change the holding force of the door holder?
DynaLock rates the 2800 Series holders at 30 to 45 lbs of holding force per door, which is what lets someone pull the door closed by hand while the magnet is still energized. The 2865 is a mechanical extension rod on the armature side, not an electrical part, so it doesn't change the magnet's rating or its power draw. The holders stay fail-safe: the magnet releases the instant power drops on fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler signal.
4) What finish does the DynaLock 2865 armature extension come in, and will it match my existing door holders?
Satin Aluminum US28 is the only finish the 2865 extension ships in, and that's also the standard finish on the 2800 Series holders, so it matches a holder ordered standard. If your building's holders were done in a sprayed custom finish rather than US28, the extension will not match them out of the box. On the 2806 and 2810 models the faceplates are stainless steel in US32D, so expect a visible difference against a US28 extension rod there.
5) Is the DynaLock 2865 extension rated for commercial fire and smoke door installations?
Commercial is what the 2865 and the 2800 Series holders are built for. The holders are used to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until a fire alarm, smoke detector, or sprinkler system releases them, and DynaLock states all 2800 holder models are UL listed. The 2865 is the armature-side extension rod that lets that assembly work where the magnet and door are set apart.
6) Does the DynaLock 2865 extension need to be wired, or does it affect the 12/24/120 volt selection?
No wiring. The 2865 is a mechanical rod on the armature half of the assembly, and the armature is the unpowered side. All the electrical work stays at the electromagnet, which is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC/60Hz through screw terminals, with built-in spike suppression. Adding the extension doesn't change how you set or land that voltage.
7) Is the DynaLock 2865 a replacement part for a damaged armature, or only an extension?
It's catalogued by DynaLock as a replacement part, and it functions as a 4 inch armature extension for the 2800 Series. If your armature itself is bent or the pivot is worn, that's a different part; the 2865 adds projection between the door-mounted armature and the magnet. Order it when the geometry of the opening is the problem, not when the armature assembly has failed.
