Model 2863 Accessory, Armature Extension, 1”

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

1) What is the DynaLock 2863 used for on a magnetic door holder installation?
The 2863 is a 1 inch armature extension rod for DynaLock 2800 Series electromagnetic door holders. It extends the armature projection off the door so the armature still meets the magnet face when the standoff distance between the wall or floor mounted electromagnet and the armature mounting point is wider than the standard armature covers. It is an accessory sold separately, not a holder itself, so you order it in addition to the door holder.
2) My magnetic door holder armature doesn't reach the magnet. How much extra reach does the DynaLock 2863 give?
One inch. The 2863 extension rod adds 1 inch of armature projection on a DynaLock 2800 Series holder. If the gap between your magnet face and the armature when the door is held open is more than an inch, a single 2863 won't close it, and the mounting locations of the magnet or the armature need to move instead.
3) Is the DynaLock 2863 a wiring or voltage accessory, or purely mechanical?
Purely mechanical. The 2863 is an armature extension rod, so there is nothing to wire and it doesn't affect the holder's voltage selection. The 2800 Series holder itself is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC and lands on screw terminals in the magnet housing.
4) I'm replacing a damaged armature rod on an existing DynaLock mag door holder. Is the 2863 the right part?
For a 2800 Series holder, yes, provided you want the 1 inch extension length. The 2863 is carried as a replacement part for that series, and the armature assembly on these holders is self-adjusting and pivoting, so it takes up minor misalignment between the door and the magnet once the projection is right.
