DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders

Model 2861 Accessory, Armature Extension, 1/2”

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

Standard Features
• 30-45 Lbs. holding force per door.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operating costs and extends battery stand-by time.
• Tri-Voltage: 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC/60Hz selectable operation.
• Fail-Safe Operation: Electromagnet releases instantly upon power loss.
• Self-adjusting and pivoting armature assembly.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the door holder is de-energized.
• Heavy-duty die cast metal housings & faceplates. (2806 & 2810 - Stainless steel faceplates)
• Satin Aluminum US28 finish is standard. Optional sprayed finishes available. -Consult Factory- (2806 & 2810 - US32D)
• Lifetime Warranty: Made in the USA by DynaLock, with over 20 years experience in the manufacture of electronic security & access control products.

DynaLock 2861 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the DynaLock 2861 armature extension actually do?
The 2861 is a 1/2 inch extension rod for the armature on a DynaLock 2800 Series electromagnetic door holder. It pushes the armature further out from its mounting point, so you can close the gap when the standoff distance between the electromagnet and the armature location is wider than the standard armature reaches. It is a replacement/accessory part, not a door holder, and it is sold separately from the holder assembly.
2) Do I need an armature extension with my electromagnetic door holder, or will the standard armature reach?
You only need one where the wall or floor mounting point for the electromagnet sits further back than the armature can span. DynaLock's 2800 Series holders ship with a self-adjusting, pivoting armature and all the mounting hardware needed for a normal install, so the extension rods are an option, not a requirement. Measure the actual standoff between the magnet face and the armature mounting surface on the door first, then add extension length only for the shortfall. The 2861 adds 1/2 inch.
3) Is this part suitable for a fire or smoke barrier door hold-open in a commercial building?
Yes. The 2861 is a commercial accessory for DynaLock 2800 Series holders, which are used to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until released by a fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler system. The holders are UL Listed and fail-safe, releasing the instant power drops. The extension rod itself is just hardware in that assembly and does not alter how the holder releases.
4) I need more than a half inch of standoff on my door holder armature. Is the 2861 the right extension?
No, not on its own. The 2861 adds 1/2 inch only. DynaLock offers extension rods in a range of lengths for the 2800 Series, so for a larger gap order the longer rod that matches your measured standoff rather than stacking hardware. Measure from the electromagnet face to the armature mounting surface and pick the extension by that figure.
5) Will the 2861 extension match the finish on my existing DynaLock door holder?
It comes in Satin Aluminum US28, which is the standard finish on the 2800 Series holders, so it matches a stock holder. Two models in the family, the 2806 and 2810, use US32D stainless steel faceplates instead, and DynaLock offers optional sprayed finishes on the holders themselves, so a holder ordered in a special finish will not be an exact visual match to a US28 extension.
6) Does adding an armature extension change the holding force of the door holder?
The 2800 Series holders are rated at 30 to 45 lbs of holding force per door, which is what lets the door still be pulled closed by hand while the magnet is energized. The 2861 is a mechanical extension rod, not an electrical or magnetic component, so nothing in the holder's rating changes by using one. Keep the armature face seated flat and square against the magnet, since a misaligned armature is what actually costs you holding force.
7) Is any wiring or voltage selection involved with the armature extension?
No wiring. Voltage selection happens at the electromagnet, which is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC with screw terminals for hook-up. The 2861 sits on the door side of the assembly with the armature and carries no electrical connection.
