Model 2864 Accessory, Armature Extension, 2”

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

DynaLock 2864 DYNALOCK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the DynaLock 2864 and when do I need one?
The 2864 is a 2 inch armature extension for the DynaLock 2800 Series electromagnetic door holders. It bolts between the door and the pivoting armature to push the armature further out, so you use it when the wall or floor mounted electromagnet and the armature mounting point on the door don't meet at the same standoff. If the magnet face and the armature line up as-is, you don't need it. It's an accessory sold on its own, not part of the holder assembly.
2) Does the DynaLock 2864 extension come with the door holder or do I order it separately?
Separately. DynaLock 2800 Series door holders ship with the electromagnet, the self-adjusting pivoting armature and the mounting hardware for a normal installation. Extension rods like the 2864 are an accessory line item, so if your opening needs the extra standoff you have to add the 2864 to the order.
3) How much extra standoff does the 2864 armature extension give me?
Two inches. That's the added projection between the armature mounting surface and the magnet face. If your gap is bigger than the 2 inches the 2864 covers, the extension length is what you'd change, not the holder.
4) Will adding an armature extension reduce the holding force of my DynaLock door holder?
The 2800 Series holders are rated 30 to 45 lbs of holding force per door, and that's the figure for the holder itself. The 2864 is a mechanical extension, not an electrical part, so it doesn't change the voltage selection or the magnet. Holding force on these is deliberately in a range that still lets someone pull the door closed by hand while the magnet is energized.
5) I'm holding fire doors open on a fire alarm interface. Does the 2864 affect the fail-safe release?
No. The 2800 Series holders release the door instantly on power loss, and they're driven by fire alarm, smoke detection or sprinkler systems to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open. The 2864 only sets the armature further off the door; the release behavior belongs to the electromagnet, which is UL listed. Nothing in the extension latches or holds on its own.
6) What finish does the DynaLock 2864 armature extension come in?
Satin Aluminum, US28, which is the standard finish across the 2800 Series holders, so the extension matches the holder and faceplate you're mounting it to. That's the only finish the 2864 is built in. Note the 2806 and 2810 holders use stainless faceplates in US32D, so on those two the extension won't be an exact finish match.
7) Is the DynaLock 2864 a commercial-duty part or is it fine for a house?
It's a commercial part. The 2800 Series is built around die cast metal housings and faceplates for commercial door holder installations, typically corridor and cross-corridor fire and smoke doors in institutional buildings. Nothing stops it going in a residence, but it's specified as commercial hardware and priced and built for that traffic.
