DynaLock 6705 US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the 1-60 second PTD on the DynaLock 6705 pushplate actually do?
PTD is the built-in push-to-delay timer, adjustable from 1 to 60 seconds. Press the plate once and the switch holds its transferred state for the time you have set, then returns. That is what lets a single press release a mag lock or fire an operator long enough for someone to clear the opening, instead of only while a finger is on the plate. Because the timer version carries the higher contact rating, 10 A at 125VAC, it can switch a heavier load than DynaLock's non-timed 6705 configurations, which are rated 6 A at 125VAC.
2) What is SPDT Form Z switching and can I use it for both a mag lock and an auto operator?
Form Z is a single-pole double-throw contact set, so you get one common with both a normally closed and a normally open contact. The NC side breaks power to a mag lock or strike while the timer is running; the NO side closes at the same moment and can trigger a low energy operator or a monitoring input. One 6705 plate can drive both legs of that sequence, held for whatever you dial in between 1 and 60 seconds, with contacts rated 10 A at 125VAC.
3) Will the DynaLock 6705 pushplate fit an aluminum storefront stile?
Not this one. The 6705 is the single gang plate, sized for a single gang box or cut-out, which is too wide for most storefront stiles. DynaLock builds narrow recessed models in the 6705 and 6805 families specifically for aluminum store front frames with minimal cut-out and preparation, so specify a narrow version for glass front work. From other brands we carry, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch built for the same situation.
4) I need a simple momentary exit button, not a timer. Is the 6705 PTD the wrong part?
Yes, if all you want is contact while the plate is pressed. The PTD version holds the transfer for 1 to 60 seconds after release, which will keep a mag lock down longer than a momentary press should. DynaLock offers other switching configurations in the 6705 series, and all of its momentary models run all active operation. Alternatives we stock include the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol in satin stainless with a momentary switch, and the Securitron PB3 series push button.
5) What is the closest equivalent to the DynaLock 6705 handicapped pushplate from another brand?
The RCI 950HP is the nearest peer: a 950 Series round push plate carrying a handicap symbol with a momentary switch, in satin stainless steel. The DynaLock 6705 is a single gang handicapped pushplate machined from solid aluminum with a blue engraved handicapped symbol, built around a 1-60 second pneumatic time delay with an SPDT Form Z contact rated 10 A at 125VAC. So the RCI plate is a plain momentary contact and the 6705 holds the door released for an adjustable interval after the press.
6) I only need a momentary contact to release a mag lock, not a timer. What should I use instead of the 6705?
The 6705 is built with a 1-60 second pneumatic time delay and an SPDT Form Z contact, which is more switch than a simple release needs. For a straight momentary press, look at the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950HP momentary push plate, or the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release. Note that only the 6705 and the RCI 950HP carry the handicap symbol, so if the opening is a barrier-free actuator those are the two to weigh.
7) Is the DynaLock 6705 pushplate solid metal or a plastic-faced actuator?
Machined from solid aluminum, with the handicapped symbol engraved and filled in blue rather than printed or applied as a decal. DynaLock rates the 6705 and 6805 pushplates as heavy duty egress controls for commercial use, which is why they hold up on high traffic entrances where a plastic actuator face gets cracked or the graphic wears off.
8) How does the DynaLock 6705 compare to an RCI 950 handicap push plate?
Both are handicap-symbol actuators for egress and operator control. The DynaLock 6705 is a single gang rectangular plate, solid aluminum, available in eight finishes and configured here with a 1 to 60 second adjustable timer and SPDT Form Z contacts. The RCI 950HP is a round push plate with the handicap symbol, momentary switching, in satin stainless steel only. Pick the 6705 when you need a timed release from the plate itself; pick the 950 when the timing is handled by your access control board or operator.
9) Can I use a DynaLock 6705 pushplate to switch line voltage?
The PTD configuration is rated 10 A at 125VAC, so it will handle a 120V load within that current. Other 6705 switching configurations are rated 6 A at 125VAC. Most access control work runs low voltage through these contacts anyway, well under the rating, but the 125VAC figure is the ceiling to design to. If you need a higher voltage rocker, the RCI 909F is rated 250VAC 10A.
10) What else do I need besides the pushplate to finish an ADA door release?
The 6705 plate is the actuator and switch only. You still supply the single gang box or backbox it mounts into, the power supply for whatever it releases, and the lock, strike or low energy operator being controlled. Wire the NC leg of the Form Z contact in series with the mag lock or strike power and the NO leg to the operator's activation input. For an interior push button at the same opening, a matching handicap plate on the egress side keeps the graphics consistent across the building.
11) Does the DynaLock 6705 light up, and which comparable buttons do?
The 6705 is a solid aluminum pushplate with a blue engraved handicapped symbol and no illumination; it is offered in Satin Aluminum US28 as standard along with Bright Brass US3, Satin Brass US4, Light Bronze US10, Dark Bronze US10B, Medium Bronze US13, Black Satin US19 and Bright Chrome US26. If you want a lit actuator, the Securitron PB4L has an illuminated halo with a stainless button and the Securitron PB5 is a medium round illuminated push button.
12) Is the Securitron EEB an alternative to the DynaLock 6705 pushplate?
They solve different problems. The Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, intended as a life-safety release device. The DynaLock 6705 is a heavy duty single gang handicapped pushplate with a blue engraved handicapped symbol and a 1-60 second pneumatic time delay, used as a barrier-free egress actuator. If the drawing calls for an emergency release, the 6705 is not a substitute for it, and vice versa.
13) I need the actuator to stay latched on rather than time out. What are my options besides the 6705?
The 6705 uses a 1-60 second pneumatic time delay, so it returns on its own. For maintained operation instead, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained device, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button is offered in maintained form in satin aluminum. The RCI 909F-MO is a flush mount rocker switch rated 250VAC 10A but is momentary, so it does not hold either.
14) For authorized-only release instead of a public pushplate, what should I specify?
The 6705 is a handicapped pushplate meant to be pressed by anyone approaching the opening, which is the point of the blue engraved handicapped symbol. If you need release restricted to staff, the ACSI 1310-1 is a 1300 Series mortise keyswitch, so the release is key-operated rather than open to the public. The two are often used on the same project, the pushplate on the barrier-free side and the keyswitch where control matters.
15) Are there DynaLock 6805 pushplates too, and how do they differ from the 6705?
DynaLock builds both the 6705 and 6805 as heavy duty handicapped pushplates, same solid aluminum construction with the blue engraved handicapped symbol, same range of switching configurations and finishes. The 6705 covered here is the single gang size. Match the series to the gang size and cut-out your frame or box will take, and spec a narrow recessed model if the plate is going into an aluminum storefront stile.
