DynaLock 7551 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What frequency is the DynaLock 7551 proximity card, and will it work with my existing readers?
The DynaLock 7551 clamshell card is a read-only 125KHz proximity credential. That means it presents to 125KHz prox readers, the long-standing low-frequency format used across most legacy access control installs. If your readers are 13.56MHz smart card readers, this card is the wrong credential for them. Check the frequency printed on your reader or its cut sheet before ordering a batch.
2) How does a prox card compare to a push button or request-to-exit device for controlling a door?
They solve opposite sides of the same opening. The 7551 card is the credential a person presents on the secure side to be granted entry. Egress is handled by different hardware: a push button or a request-to-exit switch that releases the lock on the way out without any credential. A typical card-controlled door needs both. For the exit side, ZenSupply carries REX kits built into the exit hardware, such as the Command Access REX-KIT-ML for ML1-Series mortise locks or the CRSREXKIT-ED for Cal Royal 22/98 and Sargent 80 Series devices.
3) Do I need anything else besides the DynaLock 7551 cards to make a card-access door work?
The card is only the credential. A working opening also needs a reader, a control panel or standalone controller, a locking device such as a maglock or electric strike, low-voltage power, and an egress path. ZenSupply stocks the supporting pieces around it: the Adams Rite 4605 transformer steps 115 VAC down to 12/24 VAC with a 40 volt-amp output for powering that hardware, and the Locknetics RDB4 relay distribution board handles four relay outputs when you are switching multiple devices from one controller.
4) Will DynaLock 7551 cards work alongside the cards we already issue in the building?
If your existing credentials are 125KHz prox and your readers are 125KHz, the 7551 runs on the same readers, and each new card is simply enrolled in your panel like any other. What matters for a fleet is that you standardize on one frequency across every opening. Mixing 125KHz prox with 13.56MHz smart cards means readers that accept one and reject the other, and tenants carrying two credentials.
5) If I need to release a door from the inside rather than issue a card, what should I order instead of the DynaLock 7551?
The DynaLock 7551 is a 125KHz clamshell proximity card, so it only covers the credential side of an access control opening - it does nothing for egress. For a request-to-exit signal built into the hardware already on the door, Command Access offers field installable REX kits by device family: the CRSREXKIT-ED for Cal Royal 22/98 and Sargent 80 Series exit devices with an SPDT switch, the CYREXKIT-ED for Corbin 5000 and Yale 7000 exit devices rated 5A, and the REX-KIT-ML for ML1-Series mortise locks. Pick the kit that matches the exit device or mortise lock in the opening.
6) Is the DynaLock 7551 card rewritable, or can I reprogram it for a different site code?
Read-only. The 7551 carries a fixed encoded number from the factory and cannot be re-encoded in the field. You enroll the card into your access control panel, not the other way around. If your program requires field-writable credentials, a read-only prox card will not do it.
7) Can I use DynaLock 7551 cards on a glass storefront door?
The card itself is door-agnostic, it works wherever a compatible 125KHz reader is mounted. What changes on a full glass or narrow stile storefront door is the locking and mounting hardware, not the credential. Securitron Glass Door Accessories cover the mounting side for those openings, and the Securitron SAM Surface Mount Kit accessories handle surface-applied installations where you cannot cut into the frame.
8) Is the Dortronics 6510/COV a substitute for a DynaLock 7551 proximity card?
No. The DynaLock 7551 is a read-only 125KHz clamshell proximity card - a white, unprinted credential that a user carries and presents to a reader. The Dortronics 6510/COV is an anti-tamper alarm cover for 6500 Series pull stations and 5000 Series push buttons, so it is a device that mounts at the opening rather than something issued to a person. One is the credential, the other protects a request-to-exit device, and neither does the other's job.
9) Does buying DynaLock 7551 cards cover monitoring whether the door actually latched?
No. The DynaLock 7551 is a read-only 125KHz clamshell proximity card and reports nothing about the door - it identifies the person presenting it. To monitor latching on a Schlage L9000 mortise lock, the Command Access SCHLBMKIT-ML is a field installable latchbolt monitor switch kit in an SPDT configuration. Door position and latch status are a separate switch in the lock, ordered independently of the credentials.
10) Is the DynaLock 7551 proximity card meant for commercial buildings or home use?
Commercial. The 7551 is a commercial-grade access credential intended for building access control systems, so it suits multi-family, office, healthcare, education, and institutional openings where cards are issued to tenants, staff, or contractors. It is not a residential keypad or lock accessory.
11) Is the DynaLock 7551 card one model, or do I have to pick a version when ordering?
One configuration. The 7551 is ordered as a single model, white and unprinted, with no finish, color, or encoding options to specify. Quantity is the only decision on the order form.
