1) Will an Eaton 10250T knob selector switch hold up in a washdown or outdoor enclosure?
The ratings cover it: NEMA 3, 3R, 4, 4X, 12 and 13. That means rain and sleet outdoors (3, 3R), hosedown and corrosion resistance (4, 4X), and dust, dripping oil and coolant in industrial panels (12, 13). Those ratings apply to the device at the panel face, so the enclosure it is installed in has to carry the same rating for the assembly to hold.
2) What is the difference between the two-position and three-position versions of this Eaton 10250T knob switch?
Three builds are offered. The two-position version, 10250T20KB-POP, comes with a 1NO-1NC contact block and ships with three engraved square legend plates (OFF/ON, HAND/AUTO, RUN/JOG). The three-position versions are 10250T21KB-POP with a 2NO-2NC block and a HAND/OFF/AUTO plate, and 10250T22KB-POP with a 2NO block and the same HAND/OFF/AUTO plate. Pick on contact count: 2NO-2NC if you need both a make and a break circuit in each direction, 2NO if you are only closing circuits.
3) Does this Eaton selector switch stay where I turn it, or does it spring back?
Maintained operation, so the knob stays in the position you leave it. There is no spring return. That is what you want for HAND/OFF/AUTO or OFF/ON duty where the machine state has to persist. If you need a momentary jog that drops out when released, this is the wrong operating mode and you need a spring-return actuator instead.
