B-LINE ASE-62 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the ASE-62 anchor shield in drywall or hollow block?
No. A single expansion shield like the ASE-62 works by expanding against the walls of a drilled hole in solid material, so it belongs in poured concrete, solid masonry, or stone. In drywall or hollow block there is nothing for the steel shield to grip and it will spin or pull out. Use a toggle or hollow wall anchor for those substrates.
2) Is the B-Line ASE-62 expansion shield UL Listed?
Yes, the ASE-62 single expansion shield is UL Listed. That matters on electrical work where an inspector wants listed anchoring hardware supporting conduit, strut, or fixture hangers.
3) Single expansion versus double expansion shield: which one do I need?
The ASE-62 is a single expansion shield, meaning it expands at one end only, at the bottom of the hole. That is the right choice in sound, hard concrete where the deep end of the hole gives clean bearing. Double expansion shields grip along their whole length and are the better pick in soft, weathered, or questionable masonry such as brick or older block where you want expansion spread out.
4) Does the B-Line ASE-62 expansion shield come with a bolt?
The ASE-62 is the shield only. It is the internally threaded anchor body that sets in the drilled hole, and you supply the machine bolt or threaded rod that threads into it, sized to the shield and cut to the thickness of what you are fastening plus enough thread engagement into the shield.
5) How thick does the concrete slab need to be for the ASE-62 shield?
The shield is 2.625 inches long and has to sit fully inside the hole, so your slab or wall needs at least that much sound depth plus room below for drill dust. On a thin topping slab or a shallow overlay there is not enough embedment and you should move to a different anchoring method.
6) Is the B-Line ASE-62 shield steel or lead?
Steel. The ASE-62 is a steel-bodied expansion shield, so it holds up better than lead alloy shields under repeated load and in mechanical or electrical support work. Bare steel is not a corrosion-resistant finish, so for wet or exterior locations plan accordingly.
