The AW96SP back panel is sized for 9 x 6 inch fiberglass enclosures in the Eaton B-Line series. The panel itself measures 8.25 x 4.875 inches, so it sits inside the 9 x 6 box with clearance for the mounting studs. If your enclosure is a different footprint, you need the panel matched to that size, not this one.
2) Is the AW96SP panel steel or stainless?
Stainless steel, 14 gauge, with a white powder coated finish. The white coating gives you contrast against wire and components inside the box, and the stainless substrate is the reason this panel is specified for wash-down and corrosive locations where a plain painted steel panel would rust at the drill holes.
3) Can I drill and tap this B-Line back panel to mount my own components?
That is what it is for. The AW96SP is a flat unpunched panel for fiberglass enclosures, so you lay out and drill your own holes for terminal blocks, DIN rail, relays or a small contactor. Keep in mind it is 14 gauge stainless, so use a stainless-rated bit and go slow. Any drilled edge should be deburred to protect the powder coat.
4) Does the AW96SP come with mounting hardware, or do I need studs in the enclosure?
What ships is the flat panel itself. Eaton B-Line fiberglass enclosures in the 9 x 6 size come with the back panel mounting provisions built into the box, so the panel drops onto those and fastens down. If you are retrofitting into an older or non-B-Line box, confirm your enclosure has the mounting bosses before you order.
5) What is the actual usable mounting area on the AW96SP?
The plate is 8.25 x 4.875 inches overall. Lay your components out inside that footprint and leave room at the edges for the fasteners that hold the panel to the enclosure bosses, plus wire bend radius along the sides where conduit entries come in.
