The 4A-24-HX36 is built for Series 2-5 aluminum tray with a 4 inch loading depth and 24 inch inside width. All four legs match that 4 inch by 24 inch profile, so it drops into a run of 24 inch wide, 4 inch deep tray. If your run is a different width or depth, you need the cross sized to that run, not this one.

Plan for a 51 inch overall dimension on the fitting, which is what the 36 inch radius plus the 24 inch tray width works out to on each leg. The 36 inch radius is the large bend option, so this cross needs considerably more clearance around the intersection than a 12 or 24 inch radius fitting. Check your ceiling grid, duct runs and wall offsets before you commit to it.

Bend radius is driven by the cable, not the tray. Large power and fiber cables carry a minimum bending radius, and a 36 inch radius fitting keeps them within it through a four-way intersection. Smaller radius crosses save overhead space but tighten the bend on every cable turning through the fitting. For control and small branch circuits a tighter radius is usually fine; for large feeders or fiber, the 36 inch is the one that keeps you out of trouble.

Use this horizontal cross where four tray runs meet at one point in the same plane, a true four-way intersection. If only three runs come together, a horizontal tee is the correct fitting. A cross forced into a tee location leaves an open leg you then have to cap, which is more parts and more labor than just ordering the tee.
