B-LINE B22A-240HDG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can B-Line B22A-240HDG strut channel be used outdoors or in a wet environment?
Hot-dipped galvanized is the finish on this 12 gauge steel channel, which is the coating specified for exterior runs, parking structures, wash-down areas and other damp or corrosive locations. Plain or pre-galvanized channel is the cheaper choice for dry indoor mechanical rooms; the hot-dip version is what you order when the strut sees weather.
2) Do standard 1-5/8 inch strut nuts and fittings fit the B-Line B22 channel?
Yes. B22 is built from the standard 1-5/8 inch channel profile welded back to back, so the open slot on each face takes ordinary 1-5/8 strut nuts, spring nuts, conduit clamps, beam clamps and fittings. The welded pair only changes the overall depth of the section, at 1.62 inches, not the slot opening.
3) Is B22A-240HDG solid channel or slotted?
The A designation on B22A means the channel back is plain, without the punched slot pattern. Order a slotted version instead if you need to run threaded rod or bolts through the back of the channel at frequent intervals; with the solid back you drill where you need it. Either way the open face still accepts strut nuts anywhere along the run.
4) Will the galvanized finish hold up if I cut the strut to length in the field?
Cutting a hot-dipped galvanized channel exposes bare steel at the cut end. Standard practice in the field is to touch up the cut with a cold galvanizing compound, particularly on exterior or wet-location runs, otherwise that end is where rust starts. Drilled holes in the 12 gauge steel get the same treatment.
