B-LINE B22S58-120GRN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will standard 1-5/8 strut nuts and pipe clamps fit this channel?
Yes. The face is the 1.62 inch 1-5/8 inch opening, so the usual 1-5/8 spring nuts, channel nuts, conduit and pipe straps, and beam clamps made for that section engage the returned lips normally. With B22 you get that same opening on both faces, so you can hang conduit one side and mount equipment the other.
2) What is the S58 hole pattern on B22 strut channel?
S58 is a slotted back pattern, so the channel is punched along its base rather than solid. That lets you through-bolt to structure, hang threaded rod, or splice sticks anywhere along the run without drilling on site. If your detail calls for an unpunched solid back, S58 is not that part.
3) What does the B22 designation mean compared to a single B12 strut channel?
B22 is the back-to-back (double) channel section, two 1-5/8 channels welded spine to spine to give an open face on both sides. Use it for trapeze runs, freestanding racks and posts where you need to mount on two faces or need more section depth than a single channel. If you only need to attach on one side and the load is light, a single-face channel is the simpler pick.
4) Is DURA GREEN finish suitable for outdoor or corrosive areas?
DURA GREEN is a green coating over the 12 gauge steel channel, used where plain painted strut would not hold up, such as damp mechanical rooms, water and wastewater plants and similar corrosive interior areas. For fully exposed exterior or heavy chemical service, specify a hot dip galvanized or stainless section instead.
5) Is 12 gauge heavy enough for a conduit trapeze or equipment rack?
12 gauge is the standard heavy strut thickness used for conduit racks, cable tray supports and mechanical trapezes, and in the B22 back-to-back form the two welded sections give you considerably more capacity than a single channel of the same gauge. For actual allowable load, work to the span and load tables for your span and support spacing.
6) What is the manufacturer part number for this green back-to-back strut?
The Eaton B-Line part number is B22S58-120GRN: B22 double channel, S58 slotted hole pattern, 120 inch length, GRN for the DURA GREEN finish.
7) Can one person handle a 10 foot stick of this strut on site?
Each 120 inch stick runs 17.9 lb, which is a one-man carry but awkward at that length. On overhead trapeze work plan on a second hand or a lift, and cut to length on the ground with a bandsaw or chop saw, then touch up the cut end to protect the coating.
