B-LINE B198-12ZN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much weight can the B-Line B198-12ZN clevis bracket carry?
The B198-12ZN is rated for a uniform load of 800 lbs. That is a uniform load figure, so a single concentrated point load at mid-span is not the same thing. The bracket itself weighs 2.84 lbs, so it adds very little to what your structure is carrying.
2) Which way does the strut channel face on the B198-12ZN clevis bracket?
Channel opening faces upward on the B198-12ZN. That matters when you lay out the run: pipe clamps, spring nuts and hangers drop into the channel from above, so plan clear access over the bracket rather than under it. If your hardware has to load from below, you need the opposite-orientation version instead.
3) Is the electro-plated finish on the B198-12ZN suitable for outdoor or wet locations?
Steel with an electro-plated (zinc) finish, which is an indoor, dry-location finish. It handles normal mechanical room, plenum and interior industrial conditions fine. For rooftops, exterior runs, wash-down areas or corrosive process environments, specify a hot-dip galvanized or stainless version of the fitting instead.
4) What are the dimensions of the B-Line B198-12ZN bracket?
It measures 12 in length, 3.5 in height and 1.62 in width. The 12 in dimension is the usable span you get off the support, and the 1.62 in width is the standard strut profile width, so common strut nuts and fittings drop straight in.
5) Do I need to order strut nuts and hardware separately for a B198-12ZN clevis bracket?
Yes. The B198-12ZN is the bracket only. Whatever you are hanging, pipe clamps, conduit straps, cable tray hardware, plus the channel nuts and bolts to attach them, and the fasteners or rod that tie the clevis to the structure, all get ordered separately. The 1.62 in channel width takes standard strut nuts.
6) What is the correct part number to reorder this Eaton B-Line clevis bracket?
Order it as B198-12ZN. The B198 is the clevis bracket series, the 12 is the 12 in length, and the ZN suffix is the electro-plated zinc finish. If you need a different length in the same series, the number changes at that middle digit group, and the finish suffix changes for other coatings.
7) Can I use the B198-12ZN clevis bracket to support conduit or pipe off a threaded rod drop?
That is what the clevis end is for. It pins to a rod hanger or structural attachment while the 12 in strut section runs horizontally underneath, giving you a trapeze-style run you can mount multiple conduits, small pipe or cable to. Keep the total supported load within the 800 lb uniform rating.
