The B293-18ZN carries a uniform load capacity of 400 lb over its 18 inch length. That is a uniform rating, so a single concentrated point load at the free end is not the same thing as 400 lb spread across the span. For heavier runs of conduit or pipe, step up to a shorter cantilever arm or add a second bracket to split the load.

The channel opening faces upward on the B293-18ZN. With the slot up, you drop strut nuts, pipe clamps, or conduit hangers in from the top after the bracket is already anchored, which is the easier way to work when you are mounting supports overhead off a wall. If you need the slot facing down (to hang loads underneath the arm), you need the opening-downward version instead.

There is one 9/16 inch diameter mounting hole in the vertical leg, so it takes a 1/2 inch bolt, wedge anchor, or through-bolt with clearance. Fasteners and anchors are not supplied with the bracket, so order them to suit the base material, concrete, block, or steel.

It measures 3.5 x 18 x 1.62 inches (height, length, width) and weighs 3.4 lb. The 1.62 inch width is standard 1-5/8 inch strut profile, so any 1-5/8 inch strut nut, clamp, or fitting drops into the channel.

The B293-18ZN is steel with an electro-plated zinc finish. That is an indoor, dry-location finish, fine for mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and ceiling spaces. For exterior work, a loading dock, a parking structure, or a corrosive process area, specify a hot-dip galvanized or stainless strut bracket instead.
