B-LINE B297-12SS4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What load can the B-Line B297-12SS4 strut bracket carry?
The B297-12SS4 bracket is rated for a uniform load capacity of 1660 lb. That is a uniform load figure, not a point load at the end of the arm, so keep the weight spread across the bracket rather than hung off the tip when you size a run of conduit, pipe, or equipment supports.
2) Is the B297-12SS4 bracket suitable for outdoor or washdown areas?
It is made of type 304 stainless steel, which is the usual choice for outdoor, damp, food-processing and washdown environments where a plain or painted steel fitting would rust out. For heavy chloride exposure such as coastal salt spray or pool chemistry, a 316 stainless fitting is the better call.
3) What size bolt do the mounting holes on the B297-12SS4 take?
The mounting holes are 9/16 inch diameter, which is the standard clearance hole for 1/2 inch strut hardware. Plan on 1/2 inch bolts with channel nuts or spring nuts sized to your strut; the bracket ships as the bracket alone, so the nuts, bolts and washers are a separate line on your order.
4) How much room does the B-Line B297-12SS4 bracket take up once mounted?
Overall it measures 6.25 inches in height, 12 inches in length and 1.62 inches in width. The 12 inch dimension is the arm you are projecting off the strut or wall, so check you have that much clear space plus room for the hardware head before you set your strut line.
5) Is the B297-12SS4 a complete strut support or do I need other parts?
It is a bracket only, a stainless steel strut fitting that attaches to a channel or structure. You supply the strut channel, the channel nuts or spring nuts, the 1/2 inch bolts through the 9/16 inch holes, and any anchors into concrete or steel. Order those alongside it if you are building the support from scratch.
6) Will mixing a stainless bracket with galvanized strut cause a problem?
The B297-12SS4 is type 304 stainless. Bolted to galvanized strut it works mechanically, but in wet or outdoor locations the dissimilar metals set up galvanic action and the zinc coating sacrifices first at the joint. If the run is exposed, keep the strut, the nuts and the bolts stainless as well so the whole assembly matches.
7) How heavy is the B297-12SS4 bracket to handle overhead?
Each piece weighs 4.85 lb. That is a one-hand lift on a lift or ladder, but on a long overhead run of a dozen or more brackets the added dead load is worth counting into what your anchors and strut are carrying.
